Date nights? - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

Do you guys do date nights? My husband and I are so family focused that everything we do includes the kids… movies, outings etc and we love it that way because we know one day they will grow up and not spend and much time with us but I sometimes wonder if we should be making more effort to have just one on one time

  • If you’re able to spend some time kid free I would say go for it! My husband and I live a few hours from family so when we catch up everyone wants to see each other. It isn’t a ‘look after the kids’ thing. We mainly spend time together in the evenings once the kids are asleep. Maybe in a few years time when the kids are older we can have an away from the house outing together

  • It’s great that you do everything together as a family but you should be making time for yourself and your husband. You get bogged down in everyday things and time flies by and sometimes you don’t have the energy but you should have a date night at least once a month. You want to keep your marriage strong. Plus, it’s nice to get away for a night out with just the two of you. Even if you don’t go out for dinner, you could go for a walk together alone or stroll along a beach or just sit and talk or do anything. But as far as I’m concerned you need to keep the intimacy going beyond the kids. Like you stated they’ll grow up and be gone and you and your husband will be strangers because you spent every minute with your children. You need your own identity beyond your kids. So yes, do date nights.
