We had this problem for awhile but a little older than that. We would awake up in the morning and find him sound asleep on the foot of our bed. Don’t ask me how he didn’t fall trying to get up there.
At 2 1/2 he started cry and coming into our bed. I spoke to the Practise Nurse at our Medical Centre while I was waiting to see the Dr. She explained to me that around that age they develop a very strong imagination and sometimes have what we call nightmares. I sometimes mind 2 children who were sleeping on a sofabed. When they were transferred to single beds one of them went through a stage of being scared. The bedhead is quite different and I think that may have been the issue. – put back to bed twice the first night but I relented the 3rd time a 1/2 hr later. He was asleep within 10 minutes. I didn’t take him back to his bed as he is a light sleeper and he would have woken up and me gone through the same thing all over again. He settled down after a few sleep-overs. A changeover from a double width sofabed sharing with an older sibling to a different single bed is a big step for 3 y.o.
I had trouble with my little boy too, in the end daddy took over and nicely kept on taking him back to bed and saying that he must stay in his own bed and saying no mummy is asleep I am taking you. A change in who was doing the in charge thing worked for us. You have to be strong and go without a lot of sleep for a short while to get a win and more sleep in the long run.
I know the easy way out seems to give in and let them climb into your bed with you but dont do this unless you are happy for it to continue. If you are happy with her in your bed then thats great but if not then dont let it start and just keep taking her back to her bed. She will learn in the end that its pointless and she just has to stay where she is.
Going through this right now, trying a few things its really about working out the cause. My sons recently affraid of the dark a new light and I am now comfortably back in bed. Cuddles are nice but nicer when your saying good night and leaving them to get a full sleep. But at 4am we do what we need to
