Hello!

Has anyone made their own sleeping bags? My son is 5 months old and is growing so quickly (already in size 0 suits). I am thinking of making my own sleeping bag for him as I can not afford the price of the Grobags. Are they easy to make?

  • Why don’t you buy some off brand ones? They’re a lot cheaper.

  • I’ld buy single bed doonas and sew them up on 2 sides

  • Have made both versions with sleeves and without. Quite easy for my oldest children used and old one as a pattern as the bags were mainly winter ones then. For the younger 3 brought a pattern as as quite a few years in between and have had fun making the ones that most children have now without sleeves. Plus the cost of twins make everything seem dearer and they were surprises with 9 years between them and the next one.

  • some good suggestions thanks

  • I think not, i am making one now!!

  • Don’t think they’d be too much trouble to make, have a look around the internet to see if you can find a free pattern.

  • I was going to do the same, but ended up buying 2 gro bags and it was the best purchase ever. I brought the bigger size and have been using them every night for the last 1.5 years so has been worth the big price tag. I brought 1 light one i think 2.5 tog of ebay. Maybe check gumtree or ebay.

  • i reckon they would be easy. go into spot light and see what templates they have. once you make one you will know what and not to do. good luck. i want to make some eventually aslap

  • Some great suggestion below, but I would google or try best and less.

  • there are plenty of homemade versions online!

  • there are some good comments here

  • could google them or go check you local op shops for some

  • or you could google some ideas …

  • have you seen bonds sleeping bags they are $20 . thats about the price you pay for thick material

  • I rather buy them… Just so they are really according the Child safety regulation etc.

  • Best and Less are practical, reasonably priced, babies soon grow out of them.

  • You can look for some sleeping bags online. There are few on sale. Also you can even try eBay . I got few from eBay for my DD.

  • Check out sleeping bag or sleep suit sales online. A number of the companies have warehouse sales through out the year. Be wary about making your own as the risks outway the costs. I bought many sleepsuits/blanket sleepers from Snugtime who have great sales. Their website is http://www.snugtime.com.au/. If you are in Melbourne they also do warehouse sales where you can pick these up at a fraction of the normal retail price.

  • I got mine from Cotton on for kids. I got the bigger size. They were around the 30 to 40 dollar mark. They lasted until my little boy was almost 2…

They come with a hole for you to be able to take them in the car and they were really great quality. I noticed the best and lest ones I didn’t like the material

  • Best and Less normally have them for about 15 dollars.
