Hello!

At this time of year I’m constantly taking chocolates or wine that I’ve been given as gifts on to other events. I’m always very careful as to who gave what and i never do this with anything more personal that someone will expect to see in pride of place in my home. Is this common practice? Do you ever re-gift?

  • Yes lol mainly kids toys we have double of!!

  • Yes I do obviously not things that are sentimental or personal but wine chocolate gift boxes of bath products biscuits etc are definitely things I re gift of course I keep some but when it’s a surplus on it goes.

  • I do re-gift because sometimes I’m given things I just can’t use or already have.

  • No, I don’t think I’ve ever re-gifted, but I have given things that I’ve won as gifts to others.

  • I Regift non personal items such as chocolate / Christmas cake etc if it won’t be used at home. I certainly would keep in mind who gave it to me and not regift to them. Also baby items if I have too many of something – as long as they are still as new with tags / packaging then I’ll pass it on

  • never re gifted, i think its rude

  • All the time. Like you, I am careful who I regift to. I like to see items be used and not wasted. People must know that something is regifted. I do. But if it is useful and I like it, and it hasn’t got scuff marks on it, and then I am happy. As long as it is in good condition.

  • Yes, I regift. After my baby was born I had a lot of extra stuff I didn’t want/ need. I regifted to other friends who really needed and appreciated it more than me.

  • Absolutely.
If I have an abundance of whatevers ie mugs, I would gift it on as long as I know the recipient doesn’t come in contact with the original giver. Also make sure that they would actually like the regifted item.

  • I constantly regift particularly out of size new clothing from family or extra stationary and toys. I’m also quite picky about knick knacks and prefer not to display any unless they have sentimental value, so regift a fair number of homewares too.

  • i try to make a use for the product but if i can’t i will give it to someone and just say that it is an unwanted to gift. i couldn’t give it back to the original person who gave it to me because i couldn’t hurt their feelings although i should really tell them so that they don’t give me the same item again in the future.

  • I get a lot of presents for my daughter that we have already have as her birthday and Christmas are very close. I usually write the persons name (who gave it to her) and stick it in the packaging so we can re-gift it. I really dislike taking things back as majority time they are on sale just after christmas/birthday so id rather re-gift it and make someone else happy . Since my daughter actually doesnt get the present we put the amount its worth in her bank.

  • I regift all the time -we all do. Although these days I try not to regift – I actually sell – if I truly don’t want something myself. Unless I think a new recipient would really really love the gift I’d rather sell it. But in my days as an employee of 30+ people I used to be overwhelmed with chocolates and wine at Christmas (and Easter) so I would tend to fall back on them as hostess or visitor gifts rather than buying new ones. I onpass them to my kids as Easter gifts too, no point buying new eggs.

  • I always read if you give me that i don’t like myself or i can use. We are better off going to someone who will use them rather than sitting around in my house.

  • I don’t have a problem with re-gifting whether I am the giver or receiver. But as you state to be respectful of who you re-gift to. Yes I do re-gift often.

  • Rather than re gift; if I am truly unable to use it; then I donate it to charity.

  • With things like chcoolate, theres definitely no harm in re-gifting. Sometimes it makes a great addition to a smal present, we received a vase the other day with a heap of lindt balls in it which was fantastic. Gift away! :)

  • no way, and anyone who was buying me gifts would know I don’t drink wine.

  • i am this yr

8 boxes of chocolate after losing 6 kg doesn’t seem right to have but what i have done is added them to gifts so its not just chocolates, some have candles added some soaps or a dvd depending whom the gift is for

  • Yes I do re gift but never the present that the person gave me
