The only time i’ve ever had to put a lock on my letter box is when the previous tenants of the house we live in came to collect their mail instead of redirecting it. Otherwise have never had a problem of mail going missing. It is a good idea to secure your mail for in case something bad happens. Anything big can be held at the post office until I can come collect the item.

I have had to put a lock on ours in the past. I would mention it to the local post office as it might be an issue with the postie or they might know of others who have this issue too.

Where i come from we use a public post office. Its safer and we dont have strangers going through our mail.
But if you do not wish to use the post office than you should think of upgrading your mail box in a way that only you can open and excess your mail while the mailman can only slot the mail through it.
