I take it to the mechanic. I did do a course on car maintenance but realised it’s not something that I understand well enough to tackle maintenance myself.

Hubby used to on our older cars. But not now the cars are so fan dangled

I’m no expert, but my husband does the basic things. We always brings the car for service to the mechanic and have everything checked. Isn’t this also necessary for the insurance ?

Oil and filter changes are basic enough for you to do yourself. I like a regular mechanics appointment tho to keep on top of everything else

Still lucky enough to have a mechanic as a hubby to help with this!

I trust my mechanic to service the car. I would probably wreck it if I tried to do it.

We just had our car done before Christmas and there is no way we can do it ourselves!

My husband is a mechanic so he does the servicing on our cars and that of family etc, but only if they are out of warranty.

If the car is under warranty the dealer/approved service is probably best. For older cars if you know what you are doing I think the basic service can be done at home: oil change (worst) and replacing the oil filter (messy); new air filter (easy once you know where it is); check all fluids (engine oil level, brake fluid, coolant, washers etc.) and maybe battery (check for corrosion or terminal connections that might have shaken loose). Rotating the tyres is also something you can do if there are wear patterns that make this worth while (but this comes free every 5000Km with some tyre vendors).

I change the oil occasionally, fill the washer water tank and put deisel in it, and occasionally give it a wash, oh, and occassionally chech the tyers, other than that no. If your car is under warrenty I think you can void it by doing your own maintanence. I am in a possission where my local machinic can do mior repairs and services but for anything major I have to take my car to a dealer with all the dinostic equipment, which is over 100ks away. Apparently the small mechanics can’t get the full set of dinostic equipment, it is reserved for the dealers mechanics. I don’t understand this.

With our first cars we did it ourselves, it’s easier with older cars. Now the newer cars have so much electrics and warranties, it’s best to go to a mechanic
