Yes! If you can properly care for them, then most definitely!
We have a small dog currently, but I myself have had chickens, a variety of birds, cats, dogs, mice, guinea pigs and a horse! Animals teach great responsibility and how to care for another creature

As a child we didn’t have pets growing up as Father wouldn’t allow it, I think we were the only kids who lived on a farm with no animals!
My children are growing up with a dog and it has been amazing seeing them learn with & from the dog. They get plenty of exercise because they enjoy walking the dog as a family. They’re learning about responsibility making sure the dog is fed, has water, is registered, etc. They enjoy playing ball with the dog. I don’t think my children would be as happy as they are without the dog! Every morning after breakfast they are straight outside to see their dog & give him his breakfast.
It does take a lot of work from me & my partner too but it’s very worthwhile.
Animals are so important, they become a part of the family.
I love nothing more than sitting outside in summer after everyone’s gone to bed having a chat to the dog. He doesn’t judge me, he always listens, & most important, he’s still going to be there tomorrow!

I think it is important for children to grow up with a pet, as long as the parents can afford the extra cost of owing a pet. It teaches children patience, responsibility and at some stage it teaches them about death and grieving.

Yes I think it is a great idea. At first you definitely need to supervise to ensure the child doesn’t hurt the pet or vice versa. e.g. My niece was crawling on the floor. The new pup walked up and started trying to pull the baby as though she was a toy. Children need to learn to let a dog smell their hand before they attempt to pat it. Stroke them under the chin first. Some dogs feel threatened if you put your hand on their head first as they can’t see it. Some animals don’t like you to put your face too close to theirs and you breathing into their faces. If approaching another dog…..always ask the owner first and teach the children to do the same. Some dogs are either not keen on children..or other adults for that matter….they think they are protecting their owner. Some pets – dogs and cats – tend to be a “one person” pet. Birds can be a bit funny like that too. Keep in mind who is going to care for you pet if you want to go away at all. If it is still a young pup or kitten it needs additional feeds. If you are going out for too long even for a day you may need to arrange for somebody to feed it for you. Make sure there is plenty of fresh water available at all times. If putting it outside make sure that some is in the shade and at least some of it undercover regardless of weather. They need extra if you are feeding them with dry food at all.

I think that it helps children to grow up with animals. It can help teach empathy and sympathy. Plus, it’s always nice to have a furry buddy to whom you can confide in.

I think children benefit greatly from growing up with animals. They teach responsibility, empathy and caring. If a child does not know how to treat an animal, they will struggle with human relationships. Animals are great for kids when they’re going through a hard time, they always have a friend when they have a pet

I think they should. Pets teach children a lot more than we thinks. There’s the responsibility of making the pets comfortable. Respecting the pets space, learning not to grab ears and tail or grab their food bowl etc. social interaction and eventually teaches them about death (as most pets have shorter lifespans than us).. So yes, it’s beneficial, but obviously up to each individual family to know if they can look after a set of paws.,

If it suits the family and all are willing to participate in the upkeep of the pet then I think it is great. they can learn a lot but it is a shame when you see a family not 100% committed to the pets.

Personally yes I do! They taught me so much growing up and were often my best mate who I cared for and was responsible for. But each to their own as everybody is different

I really think that Kids should grow up with their pet and it makes them feel confident with other people pets at the playground and also teaches them to be kind to animals.My two little girls adore their dog and they love to feed her and hug her alot.
