Hello!

I was just wondering does anyone do any high school preparation at the end of the long holidays to get them ready to study again at school in February? IF so what do you do?

  • No, though we try to get them back into a school routine – waking up, when they have meals, that sort of thing.

  • Nothing more then buying school supplies, uniforms and shoes etc. The kids sort it all out once at school.

  • Not really…
probably should put some sort of routine in for my 13 year old Stepson who starts High School this year (year 8 in South Australia).
Must actually get all the boys into a bedtime/wake time routine.

  • I wouldn’t think so. Hopefully kids have kept reading during the all summer.

  • our university offers really good short courses in maths, biology and physics in the holidays for year 12 students. To help prepare and also go over y11 work

  • It doesnt hurt for them to read the novels they are assigned to read for the year.

  • If they have any prescribed novels maybe they could read them!

  • i think that they will be fine and get back into the swing of things anyway :)

  • My eldest is going into year 12 and has been studying during the holidays.

  • Most studying involves reading. If you know what subjects they will be studying and have access to a library, together you could choose books covering those subjects and set times and lengths of them for reading. You might like to check that it is being done though.
Perhaps encourage them to make short notes as they probably would in class.

  • Considering teachers don’t give out homework during the holidays , there is not much to really prepare. My son is starting year 11 this year and is tutoring in English to better himself with essay writing so I told him to make sure you have concerns ready and to bring old work for some revision when he starts his lessons again .
