Hello!

I’m forever buying it and it can’t be that difficult to make it at home? Does anyone know how?

  • Methylated spirits. But a container full and pour about four tablespoons into an empty windex bottle, add drops dishwashing liquid and then 3/4 full with water. Shiny glass. Make sure to use only a cloth for glass.

  • Wow, you’re a keen window cleaner! Years ago a friend told me to spray windows with methylated spirits and wipe with newspaper til dry. I didn’t think it would work, but it does a really good good job

  • I use methylated spirits on my windows. Apply and rub off with scrunched up newspaper

  • Vinegar works well; however I do not know of an exact recipe for windex.

  • No idea, google or check out the ingredients on your bottle. I use vinegar and water.

  • Never heard of making it! Have you tried utube and google?, methylated spirits is also good

  • thanks bridgwll I will give that a go too

  • i just use cleaning vinegar and water

  • so great to have a recipe for this

  • Ok this one is from a Glazier, he swears by it, I knew I had the mix written down somewhere just found it, 100mls Vinegar, 100 mls of Metho & 200 mls of Water in a spray bottle. Don’t use newspaper as the ink has changed try a micro fibre cloth instead

  • water, metho and vinegar…. fantastic! I too will try this combo….

  • there are some good comments here

  • I used to clean display homes and woulda make my own using a little water, metho and dishwashing detergent

  • Very good question, I have also been interested in this.

  • Don’t waste your time and money. One of the best investments I’ve ever made was a set of quality microfibre cloths. There are ones for dirt and grime and ones for polishing, they are much better than ordinary cloths and no chemicals required, just water!

  • i will give this a try

  • I use a mix of warm (not hot) water, metho and vinegar in an old spray bottle and wipe off with a micro fibre cloth

  • I was reading that hydrogen peroxide is very good for windows, available at the chemist.

  • Love Cass Tucker’s comment – guess what I’m doing on Sunday?

  • While this does not work for windows but bathroom Mirrors. A great way to clean them is plain water… Wet your hands and flick the water at the mirror. Then use a flannel to wipe the stuff off the mirror.. This is the way to clean it every day and get rid of toothpaste splatter. Other wise for windows totally agree with Vinegar
