Eczema advice anyone? - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

My Grandon has bad eczema. I try to keep out of my daughter’s decisions . She’s a nurse she’s a new Mum and I’m a new Nan. Has anyone got any tricks or tips on how to make the dear little man comfortable living with it must be painful. Hate the thought he is sore in every fold, his face and even his little belly. Any advice welcome. Can wool make eczema worse?

  • I feel for you, I have suffered from this since i was a child and so has my 7 year old. I found putting baby oil in the bath water helpful at night and also rubbing coconut oil directly onto my skin and my daughters very good. It is very moisturising and soaks in quickly.

  • I found ‘Nutrimetics nutririch oil’, as well as ‘Dr Bronners unscented organic magic oil’ to both be absolutely life changing for my daughter, as well as my eczema flare ups!!! They clear up patches so fast as well as take away a lot of the itch for both of us too!

  • Yes that is a good one kahzeemie ! My eczema gets always triggered by soap and water and beating my eczema came down to moisturizing and to calm the itch and prevent from scratching. I remember I woke sometimes up in the night to pour salt over my eczema because I preferred pain above the itch ! (don’t take this as an advise to do so, lol). I too like to eat plenty of fermented food for a healthy gut balance.
I also went for many years to the dermatologist for treatment.

  • i have dyshidrotic eczema and it keeps reoccurring especially when i use a strong soap or i eat something. try to make the gut strong. i dri k prebiotics like yogurt/yakult. more veggies and kimchi. it helps to improve my gut. And in weeks you can see the result as long as do not scratch it.

  • Aw bless, having gone through eczema for many years myself, I know how itchy and painful it can be.
In general you want to use products that have no fragrances or dyes on your child’s skin. That means that you should look for a fragrance-free and dye-free cleanser / soap, body wash, moisturizer, shampoo, and laundry detergent.
It can be helpful to look if the eczema flares up by certain triggers and keep track on that.
I really love the Honey Biotics cream, which is a natural and gentler alternative to steroid creams for any skin concern

  • I really love the MooGoo range, they have a eczema and psoriasis cream made for babies. It’s very gentle on their skin and gave us fast results.
As she is a nurse I’m sure she is very well up to speed on the best ways to manage minor skin issues. Keeping in between the folds dry is important.
