Feeling emotional - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

I have been feeling quite emotional lately and struggling to snap out of it. I get teary at a lot of things and struggle to get over it. I would love to hear from other mums how they cope and get over things? It was my birthday recently and a lot of my close friends forgot and it made me feel unimportant and sad. This is just one thing that has made me feel this way. Does anyone else get like this?

  • Yes,that is normal natural feeling but I always remember that I put myself first around or days leading up to my birthday.I would book a massage for myself or a spa retreat with a friend to celebrate me.Life with family & kids are busy so even friends forget but putting you first is the key.Happy belated birthday to you🥂

  • Yes, I totally understand what you’re saying. Sometimes I have things on my mind too that bother me and it takes me some time to shift my focus and let go of these things. It helps me to talk about whatever is on my mind with someone I trust and who possibly can support me. It also helps me to meditate and to listen to music. Funny enough, the thing that helps me the most is our youngest who has Down Syndrome. She lives in the now and simply is unable to hold on to grudges. She gives herself a fist pump and says “I got this”. Her perspective on life, helps me to bring things in perspective too.

  • Awww! I’m sorry you’ve been feeling this way! Yes! Totally! I think we all go through times where everything seems to hit a little harder than usual. There’s so many things going on for us mums, hormones, stress, lack of sleep, even gut issues and not eating well can all affect how we feel! I know I get affected dramatically by all of them! I often feel like I’m on an emotional roller coaster! 😅
One thing that really helps me is starting every morning with thinking about things I’m grateful for, even just a few little things. It helps to start your day in a positive headspace. My hubby calls it the hour of power. You start your day in a positive way for the first hour of every day and everything from then on will feel a little better. I also try to accomplish at least one little thing each day that makes me feel good or productive and no matter what else happens that day I know I can be proud of that one thing.
It might also be worth having your levels check with a doctor. Things like low iron, or low vitamin D can contribute to feeling low. We’ve also just come out of winter so it’s very common. Try sitting in the sun to have lunch or a nice relax even just for 10-15 mins. Put your phone down and just be one with yourself for a little while.
Happy belated birthday! Yes, You have every right to feel hurt that your close friends forgot your birthday. I know I would too. Sometimes people have so much going on that things slip their minds. It doesn’t hurt any less but please don’t let it make you feel unimportant or question how much you mean to them! My sister recently forgot my son’s birthday and I know for a fact she loves him to bits and it’s absolutely no reflection on that. She just has so many things she’s focussing on. Please do something lovely for yourself and remember that you are so special and one forgotten day doesn’t define how loved or valued you are! Big hugs xx

  • So sorry you are feeling this way. I know you might have made yourself feel better by saying they are busy with their lives but friendships are very important and worth trying to keep. I would send a email or text message and say something like lets have a belated Birthday morning tea, brunch or lunch if kids are involved a park picnic maybe. Sometimes a little reminder is all that it takes. Now we are in Spring there is no better time to get together! Happy Birthday and best wishes for your Birthday month mom486197!
