Hello!

My partner and I are getting married in jan or feb next year. We have an 11 (almost 12) year old daughter who we wanted to be flowergirl. After looking at dresses and doing some thinking last night, we are trying to figure out if she should be flowergirl or junior Maid of Honour. I just wanted to know what other mums thought about the age of a flowergirl or maid of honour, and what they think would be a more appropriate one for her. She is quite tall for her age as well. We are really undecided at the moment so wanting other mums or dads thoughts on the issue. Thanks

  • Ask her what she thinks :) hope the day went beautifully if it has happened already

  • Do you have another option for a flowergirl instead? If so, then I’d make her a Junior Maid of Honour. Of course this is your and your partners choice!
I’d ask her what she would like to do! it becomes such a special moment for her in future to know she played such an important part :)

  • Ask your daughter which she would prefer to be.
She will be contributing her own little part to your wedding.
I really don’t think she will mind what she is called, she will just be thrilled to be a part of the big day.
Congratulations & I wish you the best on your big day.

  • I would go with junior maid of hounor as flower girls are little and young, in saying that it’s what works for you and her. Plus a maid of hounor dress maybe able to be used again

  • Have you asked her? I don’t really think it matters what you call it, as long as she feels an important part of the wedding.

  • there are some good comments here

  • I would do Junior made of honour for a 11 year old.

  • When I think of Flower Girls I think of under 5’s.

  • I think she is a bit too old to be a flower girl but the perfect age for junior bridesmaid.

  • Had a twelve year old in my wedding party (my sister) and she was just a bridesmaid, with the same dress as everyone else. It was easy to do because the dresses were handmade. She felt very special

  • Having her involved in the bridal party is fantastic, no matter what title or role you choose. Have a great day!

  • I would probably make her a maid of honour, as she seems a bit old and tall for flower girl

  • Definitely speak to her about it first and after that I wouldn’t worry about anyone else’s opinion on age etc – this is your wedding so it’s your choice, as long as she’s happy to be involved & like’s her responsibilities!! Have a great day and do what you think is best for you and your family!! All the best!

  • talk to her about it tell her what each consists of and let her choose i think she would be so excited that you are asking her opinion and treating her maturely no matter what i think you will have a very excited daughter.

  • At that age the best bet is to ask her, let her be as much or as little involved as she wants!

  • i would let her decide .

  • omg! a 12 year old junior maid of honour sounds absolutely adorable! she will love you no matter what part of the wedding she is in. Ask her opinion and go with your instintcs

  • Talk to her and see what she is more comfortable doing. It is your wedding so have it how you would like it and how she would feel most comfortable with as if she is feeling awkward it could ruin her and your day.

  • My daughter is almost 9 & was just a flower girl at my sisters wedding. She didn’t wear a traditional white flower girl dress which are often aimed at younger girls. For your daughter I would either go for a flower girl but get her to choose the dress or a young bridesmaid :)

  • Either, Either way she will look beautiful
