I normally try to find their nest and fill it with boiling water. I use boiling water on them in the house too and it works well.

Have you tried talcum powder? I think that if you want to kill them then go with a chimical instead of something natural.

I second ant rid as it takes the poison back to the nest.

If they are in your house, try putting ant rid in the path of them, and leave them too it, they will eat and take back to the nest. I did this and havent had another problem. If mainly outside, try finding the nests and boiling water down the holes.
