  • I just posted this question for my son’s 1st birthday this week! I love the suggestions here, but some are hard when you currently rent your house (backyard pieces are a tricky thing to move). So far we have some Duplo blocks, sensory water tiles (Kmart, they are amazing!), toot toot driver tracks, and the sensory book set Dog Cat Moo. We pulled the (pricey) trigger on his Christmas present early, a loungey play couch. Probably more than what others would consider, but they last year’s and grow with them.

  • I think those large foam blocks are great for that age. An activity table for water and sand play, a first slide or any activity toy is nice.

  • my little one got a fisher price jumping zebra and loved it!!!!

  • This is an old post so curious to know what you ended up getting. But for others who may be getting inspiration from this post I would recommend anything educational / interactive – things they can learn from / further develop fine motor skills. Sandpits / water tables sound like a great idea. Trikes / bikes etc are also great ideas which can grow with the child and get lots of use over the next few years

  • A nice little engraved bracelet or a 6V quad bike :-)

  • Books

  • A little trike sounds good

  • a trike that you can push them in

  • the water tables are a great idea my kids play with theirs all the time. u can get good ones from toys r us

  • heaps of great idea, swing set, a doll and pram, a riide_on

  • We chose a sandpit with a cover to keep the cats out of it.

  • how did you go? :)

  • what did you end up getting?

  • we got our daughter a balance bike but it really does depend on the child.

  • So what did you end up buying?

  • What did you end up getting?

  • What did you end up doing?

  • How was the birthday party?

  • Sand play table or playdoh activity table

  • love to know what she got?
