When it comes to receiving gifts I teach my kids to receive every thing with a smile even when we as parents or they as child don’t like the gift given to them. In the end it’s about the gesture / heart behind it. I teach them it’s not needed to make known they/we don’t like certain things or find them less suitable.
Of course there are gifts I don’t like or find unsuitable for my children and I will re gift it, if needed by replacing it by a small gift to my child.

When it comes to gifting, there are a few no-nos I try to avoid. I think it’s important that gifts are age appropriate, useful and not overly expensive or showy. I also steer clear of anything that might feel awkward for the family to receive. I prefer gifts that are simple, thoughtful and even a little educational.

No, I don’t give friends and family restrictions on gifts, but if asked I will make a suggestion but nothing expensive. I guess those who buy gifts know what things they like and know what would be appropriate. We are always appreciative of these gifts and don’t expect a lot.

I dont go out of my way to tell people rules but i definitely try to avoid things like real make up, glitter and slime. If they do receive these sorts of gifts, they kind of just get put away and re-gifted and my kids are totally on board and ok with that too!

As I wrote in the same post previously, for me it’s just keeping it age appropriate for safety reasons. I don’t want my toddler being gifted a fun toy with lots of little pieces that he doesn’t understand to not put in his mouth. Other family members don’t want their kids getting toys that are over stimulating with sounds or lights

I don’t have any restrictions on what people can buy my child as it is the thought of the gift that matters. If you feel strongly about something then it is best to speak up and let people know but for me, my friends and I all discuss and provide some suggestions for gifts to help each other with ideas on what to buy.
