Hello!

Would love to know what other families do around Halloween. Do you let the kids be involved (dress up, trick or treat)? And do you decorate your house?  A few of the families in our street have been getting into it more and more the past few years. Of course the kids really want to dress up & be involved, but I am unsure about this American tradition. Does anyone have some easy/cheap dress up ideas that we could make at home, or even some for the front of the house? What should I do for Halloween?

  • We never did Halloween really. But when the rest of the neighbourhood is and the kids want to join, why not make it a street party ?

  • My 7 yo loves Halloween, she loves to dress up & has gone trick or treating previously.I always like to get some treats for any children who come to the door.

  • Cool! There really interesting comments on this!

  • there are some good comments here

  • Hope all went well on Halloween

  • I think it others are involved in the neighbourhood it might be fun to get together and have a big party

  • How did you go with Halloween?

  • What did you end up doing for Halloween?

  • Jazrah’s town had a great idea. I think that’s great because its a way to not bother those who don’t want to be involved but also a place where all the kids can meet up and be together dressed up. I’m not really into Halloween, but evidently each year where I live there are more and more trick or treaters and more and more shop decorations and focus on it. There are some great ideas in this site.

  • Put ghost (cardboard cutting) up in the front yard, fake spiders and webs around the house, jack-o-lanterns out the front as well, scarecrow witches etc

  • We dont really do the whole halloween thing… to commercial for my liking :)

  • We’re trick or treating this year! With adults it should be fine!

  • Go to Google & reasearch halloween I found this very interesting as it was originally a Irish Christian holiday.Have a Halloween party at home depending on the ages of the kids you could let them camp outside and dressup and have a Halloween food BBQ.Not really safe to trick & treat these days Show age appropriate Halloween videos Bye

  • I went down to Big W yesterday, and if you are after Halloween decorations-then they have heaps of cheap stuff there.

  • we don’t do anything in my home other than buy a few decorations for the kids

  • Great question and great answers thanks.

  • We don’t do anything, though one year we decided to turn the lights off early and sit with torches in the bedroom and listen to all the kids walking by.

  • We are lucky to get one or two lots of trick or treaters in our area. No one really gets into it. I think its a good idea to put a sign up or something saying trick or treaters welcome. I lot of people are not sure who is involved or not. Another is to talk to your neighbours see if they will agree to let our kids trick or treat your street, even make up some lolly bags for them to give your kids.
