Hello!

I purchased a metal detector last night so I can take my boys. Looking for places that people have been before and have found gold. I have been to a few places as a child and hoping to get some new ones.

  • Wouldn’t you be better off finding spots that are likely to have gold but no one has been there before? Chances are all the gold has gone from spots ppl are recomnending

  • Hope you had success – searching for treasure would be fun!

  • only when I went panning for gold years ago at Sovereign Hill!

  • Sounds like a lot of fun – hope you find some treasures.

  • You never know what you might find,l hear people finding gold even these days!

  • Sounds like a lot of fun! Hope you have had some luck.

  • A very long time ago my ex tried to find gold while we were travelling in Kalgoorlie but he found nothing lol

  • My nephew got a metal detector for Christmas one year. He used to go over his yard, found some interesting bits and pieces, mostly rubbish tho

  • Depends on we’re you live,my grandpa was a gold miner. There is a book about a place called Drake,up northern NSW,my grandpas pictures in the book ,he tells you where you can find gold up that way,he’s been gone for 18yrs now.

  • I was thinking of getting one always wanted as a kid. I don’t reckon find gold but would still be fun.

  • It sounds like a lot of fun; good luck!

  • I have a metal detector, I don’t use it that often but keep saying I should. I like rummaging around old sites and I’ve found stuff in our backyard in one area in particular, it obviously used to be a rubbish pit back in the 1920’s when our building was built. I’ve found bottles, loads of nails – some very old, and other bits and bobs. I don’t go looking for gold. You need to google or buy a book that will tell you some good sites for digging and make sure you follow the metal detecting etiquette.

  • Half the fun is in the looking and the strange things you find that aren’t gold!

  • I used to go with my dad as a child to be honest we had more fun with the surroundings as wheb your not finding gold it can drag on. We used to go out bush near Bendigo (Vic)

  • have you and your boys found any treasures yet?

  • that sounds like heaps of fun, i don’t know any places tho

  • Walking along beaches is a great way to combine exercise and finding things with a metal detector. My brother has found money, jewellery, old coins, all sorts of things. Or you could always try country areas where they used to do gold mining.

  • not sure about where you would find gold specifically and you have not mentioned which would help us make suggestions

  • adventurous and funny .i never tried it…have a good time with your kids …

  • I have never done this, I think if nothing else it would be fun to see what you can find
