Hello!

My first baby was 10 days overdue at 41+5 weeks. Many pregnancy books don’t talk about the forth trimester where you are waiting, waiting, waiting, as big as a balloon, attending the hospital every other day for CTGs and very emotional. What are your experiences?

  • I thought the fourth trimester is the 12 weeks following the birth of your baby. Not everyone has heard of it being called like that, but every parent and their newborn baby will experience it.

  • My first had to be induced two weeks earlier then his due date. My daughter was due on the 20th and didn’t arrive til the 24th. So no major late issues with either

  • Both my boys were two weeks late and yes it was quite uncomfortable but I think the waiting was truly the hardest part. I just wanted to met this new little person who was too comfortable inside. I hope all went well with the both

  • My son was two weeks late. I think after that time they are suppose to induce you or give you a choice. Very confusing so I would ask about this to your doctor .

  • After I went past my due date, I was booked in to be induced, so my care team were not going to let my pregnancy go on for much longer.

  • My first 3 babies were born well on time. My 4th however, I had a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks but when she was born she was wrinkled up like a little prune. Midwives say she presented at being at least 10 days overdue. Someone, somewhere screwed up my dates. I shudder to think what would have happened if she hadn’t been a scheduled c-section. She could have been in there at least another 17 days. The last week with her was awful. Never been through it with any of the others.

  • I’ve just learnt something new. I had never heard of the fourth trimester, never experienced it either. Thank you for enlightening me

  • Mine was early so didn’t have that problem. My sisters second was very late though and she didn’t want a c section so she went through the waiting.. Was getting rather frustrated from what I was hearing!

  • My second child was 43 weeks and when born really looked like she “was over cooked”. They broke my water to try and start labor and the doctor said at the time that she didn’t want to come out as they had to grab her 3 times with forceps. She was over 9lb and the hungriest baby I had. That was 37 years ago and I think these days they would not let you go so long.

  • Never got that far in a pregnancy my first was born at 24 weeks, second at 34 wekks, third at 36 weeks and forth at 38 weeks. Gosh if i have another i might just hang on that long.

  • I was 41weeks with all three of my pregnancies so by that stage instead of fearing the birth I couldn’t wait. Yes you do feel like a whale but some just like to bake longer!

  • i was 14 days overdue with baby number 1 during a heatwave!

  • I’ve been told by midwives that up to 42 weeks is perfectly normal but agree there isnt much out there in terms of literature!

  • My Bub was 4 days overdue. I had a good pregnancy but towards the end they were worried about fluid levels. I was going to be induced on day 6 but thankfully she came on her own. After getting the nursery done and stuff around the house it starts to get a bit boring. My mum always said make the most of your free time, watch movies, read books, relax, sleep.
