I’ve only ever used the chemical dyes.

I have never used one – but this has definitely got me thinking!!

Ive never dyed my hair using chemical based hair dye but I’ve used henna before and gave me a dark red colour. I don’t know how effective it is for gray coverage though.

I buy hair dyes for my husband’s hair and help him apply it for many years and I find that Garnier is the best which has more natural ingredients than chemicals . The smell of the dye is much milder than other brands . There is suppose to be a new product out that doesn’t contain peroxide so keep an eye out for that at the supermarkets/ pharmacy.

Some \”alternative\” home dyes can be astringent on the scalp, so be careful as it can upset your scalps ph level and/or irritate the scalp and not produce desired result. The only way to properly cover greys is with a peramant hair colour. There are professional organic brands that are free of ammonia, sls\’s, parabens & PPD\’s which is perhaps what you are wanting to avoid rather than hydrogen peroxide (the colour activator that deposits colour and covers grey). I am a hairdresser and use such colours on my clients for a healthy natural result. If however, you arent concerned with 100% grey coverage and happy with a subtle change a semi permanat colour will give a softer result. (that is still mixing a colourant with a much lower strength hydrogen peroxide). Going to a hairdresser can mix the right colour and strength specifically for your desired result. Alana 🙂

I cant use chemicals on my scalp but I do use Fanci Full Mousse to colour my grey!

Also; apparently it does not last as long as hair dye that contains chemicals; however that may have just been the experience of my friend.

No; however; I know someone who does; purchased through a health food store. Apparently it is natural and chemical free; may be worth looking into?

I’m a Blonde but my Nan back in the 40’s use to dye her hair by using Black Tea. She never threw out her tea leaves she had a medium basin which she would put her tea leaves in. It was really dark brown looking like black coffee and she would rinse her hair in it and do this a couple more times and then rinse again. She always had nice brown hair.
Mum had blonde hair and she said she would use lemon juice in a spray bottle with water and sit in the sun. The sun would give her hair blonde highlights.
