Hello!

How do you get your little ones to have panadol or any medicine? My 2 year old puts on such a turn when he needs medicine I have tried getting him to do it himself out a dropper out a medicine cup and he just screams and refuses to have it. Needs some useful tips its a nightmare

  • Get him to lick it. He won’t hate the taste hopefully and it calms him down enough to squirt the rest in.

  • I tell my son it’s super hero juice and quickly squirt it in his mouth followed by water or milk.

  • I mix it with yoghurt and in it goes.

  • To start with, I didn’t make a big deal out it being “medicine” so they just took it. the Flavours certainly help. At the end of the day if they need medicine then you just have to get it in to them anyway you can and hopefully the process will get easier for you both.

  • Only way I can get my son (also 2) to take panadol is if I have a bit myself.
Once I have some, I look at him and say “that is yum! I feel so much better now”.
He copies and does the same 🙂

  • my kids will just have it. If he is really fussy mix the medicine in with a little juice

  • Same as some of the other moms – Use a syringe and squirt into the side of the mouth so they can’t spit it out as easy.

  • I have twins that use to act like that. I found using a syringe and squirting the meds into the side of the mouth so it goes on the outside of the cheeks works, it’s harder for them to spit it out. Good luck

  • My 2yo spits out the white Panadol brand but will take the red Paracetamol. We talk to her and tell her the yummy medicine is good and will help her, but the yucky medicine Daddy has to take is bad.

  • Put their head upside down. Might sound stupid but I got told to do it with my little one who would alway hold it in her mouth and spit it out. So now we put her on our lap and put her head down and give it to her that way. When they are upside down they have no choice but to swollow. Has made it so much easier to give her medicine now and it takes 2seconds instead of 10+mins

  • Lots of answers from other Mom’s and I would like to add that it does get better as they get older. Hang in there! 🙂

  • Thanks mums going to give it a go mixing with juice doesn’t matter what flavour or brand we have the same problem

  • It’s dymadon that our baby takes easier. The orange flavour is good.

  • We still have this issue with Miss 3. She never takes panadol or nurofen. The only time recently was in vanilla ice cream with chocolate quik on top.

  • Have you tried calling it something like “special drink”?

  • My little one doesn’t like the panadol brand. Like neurophen and the dynotap? panadol (purple labelling) as they have an orange flavour. paracetomol is bitter so needs good disguising.
As terrible as this is… what about a reward/bribe for taking it? A lolly after?
I find it helpful to tell them it will be an unusual and not great taste but it will help make them feel better. It’s ok if they don’t like it but they must try anyway. Being honest with them sometimes (and only sometimes) works.

  • I have always make it fun and tried to make it less scary when it comes with giving my son medicine and panadol my son know loves that he can do it himself now 🙂 maybe try explaining it to her and and encourage her to do it.

  • We crush it up and mix it with jam or nutella! Goes down a treat

  • get pr panadol! tried a different brand?

  • My daughter only likes the strawberry panadol. I also tell her it will make her feel better. I buy the size for 5-12 years. On the box there is instructions for dosing a 2 year old. The does is much less than with the 1–5 yearr old dose. I also offer a special drink of juice afterwards.
