Hello!

My daughter is almost a year old and Ive been having name regret.??I know….I already feel terrible. We struggled with naming her and anytime I introduce my sweet girl, there’s often an awkward silence. I hate the thought of her having to deal with that as she gets older. Our older 2 are Aiden and Addison….we just liked the names-A’s not intentional. They are school age so there’s a bit of a gap with our babe. We describe her as strong willed and happy. I often say I felt as if she was already born but God was just waiting for me to bring her home. We contemplated having a 3rd for several years and I was so scared(rough delivery with middle)….and relieved/happy at the same time when we found out. All she knows is Blakely…and she now seems like a Blakely ☺️ but it is kind of a mouthful and I don’t want her to have to deal with comments about her name constantly growing up. Is it too late to change her first name or should I just change her middle name (if any change) to have more meaning? No ties to Rose…just was simple and classic with such a unique first name. We’ve thought about Isabel (isa=strong-willed; Isabel=gift of God). Ava Blakely? 2 first names no middle? Help. I feel like I need to make peace with this quickly and either embrace it or change it. We will definitely keep Blakely as either first of middle. No family name or significant meaning to the name but she has been our Blakely for a year and my name is in her name. Kel ????

  • For me the issue would be more the confusion the name change could cause, not only for your girl but for everyone around her

  • I actually quite like Blakely and I wouldn’t change it because of other people if you like it. I actually think having a unique name is a good thing in a lot of ways. Having said that if you really decide you do want to change it I think Ava Blakely is lovely too.

  • Blakely is such a sweet name! I hope you stuck with it!

  • I wonder if you some years later now still struggle with her name and if you changed it or not ?

  • I’m sure she won’t care either way when she grows up

  • I think it’s a nice name. Personally I wouldn’t change it.

  • I know where your coming from the only deference is I’m head strong and wouldn’t change either of my kids names, my son has an unusual name (Steele) and we love it, it took at least a year for ppl to say positive things about it. And our daughter has an old name just spelt differently (Giulia) which I have found I get more comments on that then my sons unusual name, like she will have trouble with her name for the rest of her life etc etc, but I don’t cate because we love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. I personally think if you love her name and meaning don’t change it, it’s a beautiful name and ppl will love it in good time, but if you want to change it make sure your changing it for all the right reasons and not to make everyone else happy

  • Blakely is a lovely name and whilst it may raise some eyebrows now as she gets older I was be original but not strange like some names are. I think it will be a strong, beautiful name for ages 8+ so stick with it :)

  • Personally I like Blakely and I also love the fact that your name is also hiding in there.
Your daughter is used to her name now and if you changed it you must consider the effect on her.
Don’t worry about other people and what they think or may not think…as long as you, hubby and beautiful Blakely are happy that is all that matters.
Wishing you all a world of JOY. <3

  • Blakely is a beautiful and unique name and children tend to grow into their name.

  • I think you should do what feels right in your gut. She might like her name, so maybe you could wait until she’s old enough to make the decision herself. I’d just call her Blake for short, plenty use a nickname anwyay.

  • Don’t worry about other people’s opinions !!
You say all she knows is Blakely…and she now seems like a Blakely and that you will definitely keep Blakely as either first of middle. Meaning you love the name yourself ! I would say, leave the name as it is and if you feel for it call her Blake, short for Blakely.
Btw, my parents named me on my birth certificate Martine Ellen. But then they found Martine didn’t suit me and called me by my middle name Ellen ever since. That’s an option as well.

  • I think name regret is normal. If you were to change it – would that add to the regret?
Have you thought of a shortened version of the name you chose – blake?

  • If you don’t like the name you called her by all mends it is up to you if you want to change it! Best of luck with your decision!

  • There is a famous Australian actress called Blakley I am sure of it . I think life will be confusing for all of us if we struggle to do things just to please everyone , so if you like it keep it, She can always change it herself as an adult if she really hate it that much which I doubt.

  • If you like the name and you say she now ‘seems like a Blakely’ – then keep it. Don’t worry about what others might be thinking – you’d be amazed how many children love to have a unique name and, personally, I think it’s lovely!

  • I have never heard this name before but I really like it and if you do too, then screw everyone else. You will never please everyone when choosing a name and you don’t have to. That’s why it is your choice and no one else’s. I also think Ava Blakey is beautiful, but I’m not big on two first names. When she is older, she could always shorten it to Blake and that is nice too. Do whatever you and your partner think is right and don’t listen to anyone else.

  • I don’t think you should change it just because others may not like it. What matters most is YOU like it. I personally think it’s a unique nice name.
