Hello!

My boy is nearly four and he is driving us nuts lately! He won’t give up his milk bottles, wants the light on at night, and wants to go in the pram. He won’t go to bed without his security blankets either. Thoughts? When will he be a big boy?

  • I think you have to ask whether these things are really a problem? ie what’s actually so wrong about a security blanket at night? If you want to get him out of a pram, maybe start doing short walks around the block without taking the pram. Milk bottle – he doesn’t get milk unless it’s a cup in the morning. Again though – ask yourself whether they are really issues. He will let go of these things in his own time.

  • at around 3 they really don’t like being called a baby. i am sure that he will get through this phase.

  • Your son sounds like a sensitive insecure type of person perhaps ? My son takes after my side of the family and is quite sensitive whereas my daughter is more feisty and can take more criticism by others. Does your son mix with other people such as nieces/nephews etc as this will allow him to get out of comfort zone and when they socialise with others a bit more, he will feel a bit more secure . If this is a concern and it is getting worse, it may even be mild anxiety . I would seek the advice from your local community childhood centre and see what they think. Also sometimes it could be part of his personality which of course is ingrained. Good luck anyway .
