I home schooled my two children for four years and it worked really well. We followed the NSW Dept of Education curriculum guidelines and did school work from 9 – 12 everyday (it’s amazing how much you can get done with no interruptions.

We were a part of two different home-schooling groups and met up for excursions, picnics, birthdays etc.

I loved the experience and only stopped when my daughter decided she wanted to go back to school. It was always their choice.

I think the idea of homeschooling is nightmarish, but if it works for you and your child, go for it! Maybe try to hook into your state’s network for home schooling parents for advice around approaches.

Hats off to any parent that can do this full time. I do worry about the social aspect and missing out on friends.

Such a difficult time for students. Everyone has been impacted by the lockdown and I think we’ve all realised the importance of face to face learning. I would ask the teacher for advice and also look at different textbook resources you could follow.

That’s not something I would like to do by myself.

I don’t have any tips here. My boys are only 2 1/2 but my husband is really keen on homeschooling. I’m not as keen.

My son did years 11 and 12 at home. It was a struggle to get him to sit and actually do the work, but he got it all submitted in time. His grades improved out of sight too

When we went into COVID i was not particularly confident or impressed with the home schooling that was rolled out by our school. Without doubt our daughter lost valuable education time and is behind on where she should be now. That being said, it appears all schools and students are impacted and what we have noticed is schools are not doing anything to specifically address this gap students have had and seem to just be continuing on. In the public school sector if your child falls behind or needs additional help there is not a lot of support. So if you have the time and skills to home school, I think it can be very beneficial, tailored to what your child needs and you can take carriage of their education needs. You would just need to ensure they have the opportunity to socialise as well which is another important part of schooling.

I’m interested in this too. I’d love to home school my son, but I’m worried about the lack of social interaction with other children. However lots of the interaction with other children can be negative too with bullying etc so try could protect them from that & they could focus more on their education without any distractions

I would suggest contacting your local or state home schooling group for advice. They will help you with some guidelines and also offer a network for support and social connections for your child.

I commend you and glad its working out. I am way too impatient and have all the admiration in the world for you

I would really like to home school my kids but hubby is super against it. He thinks they’ll be socially awkward with not being around other kids their age etc. and also thinks that they’ll end up to be weirdos when they’re older as they won’t know how to communicate and engage with other people in real life and will just rely on social media but I don’t think so…?

I would love to hear more articles on home schooling. I would like to read the day to day routine of what a child in homeschooling is. I have only herd people say minimum re this subject. Do the children in home school make a lot of friends,do they get invited to birthday parties and when do they complete their education.

I homeschooled my middle child and my youngest child. With my middle, I came up with the curriculum. Mostly because there weren’t resources for year 9/10 in 2018. There’s still not a lot, but I used complete education with my youngest.
I prefer the unschooling method of letting their interests lead them to education, as long as they know the basics.
It’s not for everyone and it really depends on what state you live in. I’m not familiar with the expectations of Victoria. As long as whatever activity you’re doing can link back to the required outcomes, you’re good.
But, look online for resources for your child’s age group. the NESA website has some and there are so many fun sites for younger kids.
