Hello!

When I was growing up my mum would always every Christmas give us craft stuff so we could make Christmas decorations for the house. You really do not see this tradition anymore which is rather sad maybe its because now people have a much busier lifestyle. Bring back the home decorations I say! Do you have any ideas for homemade christmas decorations?

  • When I was young I used to love picking up pine cones and then painting them and placing them in bowls – very pretty.

  • Our tree is always overflowing with homemade decorations! Simply love them!

  • I simply adore colourful paper chains; favourite as a kid and as an adult too!

  • Paper snowflakes (add cellophane for the stained glass look)
Pop stick stars with glitter and sequins
Salt dough ornaments and paint them
Cookies that you can hang from the tree (honey biscuits?)

  • read my mind exactly I was only saying to my partner yesterday that I wanted to make some Christmas decorations with my girl this year like my mum use to with me when I was younger so this weekend we are going to be blowing a egg shell empty and painting it and decorating them.
haha couldn’t think of how to word that :)

  • I made salt dough deco’s last year and went to put it on the tree today to find it broken. I have some foam in christmas colours that i’m going to cut into christmas shapes.

  • A favourite with my kids is to make Christmas chains to put around the roof/walls. We use a couple of rolls of Christmas paper cut into size and shape of roughly a 30cm ruler sticky tape the two ends together to make a circle and loop the next length through the middle and repeat until you have acquired your desired length.

  • This year, I brought clear Christmas baubles and various trinkets and the children filled their own ball to hang n the tree. We also made these to send as gifts with the children’s photo in them.

  • paper chain links
    baked dough stars etc
    spray pine cones
    string up the cards
print out santa cones for the table

  • We’re making paper snow flakes and stars. Also trying to make dough ornaments that the kids can paint for the tree

  • We made salt dough decorations at Easter so maybe we will do that for Christmas too. We do homemade decorations at Playgroup too which is great.

  • I found this on face book thought it may be interesting

  • I need some ideas to, I have that same memory of my childhood, I am a cub leader for a scout group and going to have a night of craft so they can take home.. I am going to do lanterns, chains etc don’t have any plans on how to make these will source from mums in the group..glad someone feels the same ,.goodluck

  • can do paper chain
pinecone paining in the theme colours you are having for xmas,
make tree hangers from scratch using ether plaster or a recepies of pintrest.

  • Each year my kids and I paint canvases with their hands and or feet last year we painted their feet and called the painting mistletoes

  • We love to make traditional paper chains and golden gum-nuts!

  • I have time off from uni from the end of next week and I want to start making decorations with my son. I will try the paper chains and just googled the salt dough ornaments too there are some wonderful ideas out there. I will be watching this post for more lovely ideas.

  • Snow flakes, paper chains, stars and anything red, green or white

  • Paper chains are great, look lovely and you can coordinate the colours for your Christmas theme. Also paper lanterns are easy and look lovely.

  • My Mum used to save old Christmas Wrapping paper and the next year some of it would be used to make “chains” to drape across the top of window and door frames. I can’t remember whether we used sticky tape or glue to stick each chain piece together. You just reminded me of an idea to keep the youngest ones entertained nearer to Christmas day.
