Hello!

I would love to know how are you keeping the house clean while the kids are all at home? It’s driving me mental and our house is just looking so grungy and messy. Would love to know your tips.

  • I think its just a change of attitude. You are all together and safe and thats all that really matters. The house cleaning can wait.

  • Go with the flow, or it will drive you nuts. Get everyone into a routine of doing their bit throughout the day.

  • Maybe allocate an area for each person to keep clean with a reward for those who follow through.

  • I just keep doing everything that I notice needs doing at that time. Makes it easier in the long run and everyone pitches in which also makes it easier.

  • We just keep our routine. Which is tidy up before dinner. Not tidy, no dinner (yet) :)
My husband vacuums after dinner, I mop the floor before everyone is up. Daily washing and iron/fold and tidy the wash away. When I put my youngest in bath I clean the bathrooms and toilets upstairs and mop the floors from the bedroom and wipe down the door handles upstairs. When I do the dishes I wipe the cupboards and door handles downstairs

  • A little bit each day and don’t fret over it

  • I always do it with my kids at the end of the day. They know they need to pack up everything before bed time.

  • Clean up is at the end of the day but making sure everything has a place makes it easier.

  • Nightly tidy up before bed. Or things away as I go passed them during the day

  • Little bits at a time throughout the day whenever I can. If I notice the counter has things all over it, I put things away as I travel though the house with my child. I get my child involved in packing laundry away too – she likes to bring me things from the basket & we make it a game.
If all else fails, I pack everything away, do dishes & wipe counters after the toddler goes to sleep at night.

  • I try to ignore it threw the day and just before tea be all get in and clean up

  • We’ve started doing a cleaning blitz every night before dinner. We crank the music – put the timer on for 10 minutes and tidy the living/kitchen areas. I also created a chuck bucket and if there’s anything left in there after the cleaning blitz it goes in the bin or charity pile

  • I bribe mine- they don’t often get to watch tv or movies so if they tidy up they get rewarded with watching something.

  • I’m cleaning constantly!! My husband and boys are so dirty!! If I leave it for a day the house is trashed. I’m vacuuming every day and tidying up behind them allllll day. It sucks!!

  • I keep kids in one room for an hour watching tv until I finish vacuuming and mopping

  • We just tidy and vacuum in the evening and I mop the floor in the early morning before everyone is awake, with in between wiping down counters cupboards and walls.

  • I was thinking about this last night, but funnily, since hubby and I are working from home and we have our 3 kids home with us, our house is looking the cleanest it has in ages. Everyone is doing their little bit to keep on-top of the upkeep. My 5 year old empties the dishwasher, the boys 8 & 10 look after the bins and tidy their bathroom. I have found some advice I received on this website really helped by not giving in and cleaning up after the kids. Making them do it for themselves.

  • We have some areas that are ‘busier’ activities areas with more clutter but clean up is at the end of the day. It is of course different right now and will look different and that is ok.

  • My younger 2 are back at school but I always use the threat approach. No games till the mess is tidy.

  • It’s been tricky , but I try get everyone involved ! Makes cleaning up a little easier ! But if anyone has better tips id love to hear them
