Hello!

Hi MoM, I’d love some advice. My 2 year old daughter is showing all the signs of being ready for toilet training bit I cannot get her to sit on the potty or toilet. Any ideas on how I can encourage this? How can I get my 2 year old to sit on the potty?

  • My kids never used a potty..when I used the toilet we all would end up in the toilet room .so by the time they were toilet training their little minds had a fair idea what the toilet was use for

  • Give her examples of you sitting on the toilet and talk about when you need to wee and get her to go to the toilet with you.

  • listen to your 2 year old, he/she probably wants to feel grown up, and use the toilet. I didn’t have a potty, I hate them!

  • It was interesting reading the answers to this!

  • Don’t! Go straight to the toilet, and use a step (we had a turtle step). kids love to be grown up and you may find they go well on the loo

  • i know that you posted this ages ago but i will comment for others. you can try a rewards chart or get a fun fisher price potty

  • We never had any luck with the potty, what worked for us was a little toilet seat that went over the normal toilet, he saw it as the normal place to ‘go’

  • You cant force them if they r not ready or scared of it for some reason I would back off a bit or it might take even longer, maybe try buying a doll with a potty or sitting dolls/teddies you already have on potty and making a fuss, oh look teddy is going potty what a good teddy he is a big boy and doesnt need nappies etc, but I am sure she will be happy to sit on it in her own time anyway

  • I know it probably sounds gross but get an older kid (cousin or close friend) who is already trained but only slightly older to show your 2 year old the ropes, he/she may just want to copy another kid!

  • Buy a ladder toddler toilet seat, and make it exciting for her to be on the “Big Toilet”

  • Hope she has come around and is using the potty for you now.

  • Don’t push her too much, she will come around eventually-maybe even a rewards chart could help.

  • treats or a special toy she only gets to play with while sitting on the pot

  • Encourage her with a treat:)

  • Love Lovi’s suggestion, the dino potty is cute! Hope its going well :)

  • Haha toilet in front of the tv…. How about a treat?

  • Some really good ideas here

  • Put it in front of the tv.

  • Oh and we made it fun – time to ride dinoooooooooooo

  • I had this problem with my boys and I got them a dino potty ( below is a modern version of it) and it became fun as well as in the position it is easier to do your business :)
