Hello!

My 6 year old step daughter will sometimes be still eating her breakfast 30mins after I give it to her, while my 2 year old daughter has finished hers. She chose the cereal herself at shopping but is even slow eating toast. I’m in the process of trying a timer with the incentive that on a Saturday morning she gets a special treat at breakfast being coco pops. They don’t get sweet cereal at our house. How can I get my kids to eat faster?

  • I wouldn’t rush her. It’s actually healthier to eat slower for your digestion and many of us eat far too fast. Just calculate the she needs in your routine.

  • Try the timer. Try getting them up,earlier so they have lots of time to,eat.ma lot of parents complain about non eaters, it’s different to see slow eaters as a problem. Good luck :)

  • i wouldn’t rush her. she might be inclined to eat less in the future or stop completely due to the stress of trying to eat quick enough

  • Eating slow is better for us, you should maybe make more time for breakfast and let her enjoy and digest the food properly.

  • Not sure why you want her to eat faster, eating slower is actually good for you.

  • I wouldn’t be encouraging to eat faster … eating slow is good and probably as you try to rush her it will make her slower.

  • Eating slowly and mindfully is actually a good thing, we all should eat slower!

  • there are some good comments here

  • I think you shouldn’t push it… Let her take her time. Eating slowly should be encouraged.

  • How is she going now?

  • I think it’s just a stage you need to wait out unfortunately

  • how did it go? :)

  • I am a slow eater… I was always he last one sitting at the table finishing my dinner with impatient brothers wanting their dessert. My mum tried to get me to eat faster but I wasn’t purposely trying to be slow so nothing worked. I am still a slow eater and still the last one at the table!

  • She may be a slow eater. My eldest was always a much slower eater then my other two.

  • its good that they eat slow

  • Sometimes I think they are still half asleep too, when it is breakfast time-they are still waking up when they are eating.

  • Some really good advice given here.

  • Children need to eat in there own time. She might just really chew her food which is good for her… Better than mine I put it in front of them and its gone. I,m not sure mine taste it… But slow eats are healthy .. Slim and don,t eat as much because they really chew there food… The other thing does she like hat your giving her….

  • Let them feed in their own time otherwise they might not eat at all

  • I wouldn’t discourage it. It will do wonders for her metabolism as she ages eating slowly. Perhaps put her to bed earlier and waking her up earlier if it’s disrupting your routine.
