Bi carb tends to remove odors. You could sprinkle some in the jar and after a while rinse it out.

You could try sprinkling some powdered lime in the jar, all around, and then between additions of compost

Some types of ceramic are porous. That could be why they are holding the smell. Maybe lemon juice and water, brush with a dishwashing brush, bottle brush or similar and tip the liquid into your outdoor compost heap. Rinse your brush and leave to dry.

Plain white vinegar gets rid of smells really well.

Just saw one of these jars in a homeware catalog ( the catalog gets dropped at the door, you leave your order and the catalog at the door) – this one came with a carbon fibre pad to absorb the smell and had 2 replacement pads – might be worth looking into

Try soaking the container with a solution of bicarbonate and vinegar. Then rinse in clean water and rub the inside with bicarbonate to soak up any remaining liquid and help deodorise.

Sprinkling a little bicarbonate soda will absorb the smells. Also good for in the fridge, I keep a small container on the top shelf. Can be replaced each time you empty the ceramic co Rainer and it’s cheap to use .

also have you tried chopping mint and sprinkling on top.

I don’t use a ceramic one myself but have one which has a carbon/charcoal filter built into the lid which keeps odours down between washes. Like someone else recommended I tend to use bi carb to absorb any unwanted odours and have not had any adverse affects with it in our compost bin outside ie. Worms galore.

You could add some essential oils like mint or orange to the Ceramic Jar. Or try swishing around white vinegar after you wash it out then let that dry in the sun.
