  • A serious illness forced me to stop work and brought my ambitions to a screeching halt.

  • some people study a subject and then find completely something else so they change

  • I kinda fell into mine. Always wanted to be a physio but stumbled across occupational therapy when applying for uni and have never looked back.

  • It’s always been about work/life balance for me. I’m happy with where I’m at and how I can still be around for my kids.

  • At school, I wanted to become a Vet but ended up in Accounts. That having become stale I shifted to IT which has been very challenging in more ways than one – I’m at the stage in my life now where I need to step back and take a less stressful and time-consuming role … not sure what that will be yet!

  • Although I am 43 I still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up! I have used every opportunity I’ve been given and have a very good job within the higher education sector which i would like to build on and develop further, however I am careful to balance it with my family’s needs.

  • I have always been very career focused and ambitious however I was very lost at one point in my original career. A series of circumstances led me to a new career and I couldn’t be happier. I have a few mentors and trusted advisors to thank for that. Listen to those you trust and have faith in your abilities, that’s my advice.

  • I’ve never wanted a long-term career. I just wanted to be a mum most of all.

  • I just do work that l enjoy and it l have taken it from there,do what you love and work is not a chore!

  • Finding people that are good mentors and challenge systems is beneficial.

  • Pushing forward but do find there are some barriers in the way.

  • This is a great question. Circumstances have forced all my changes to date and now I’m in the position where I need to decide my next move and I’m a bit lost.

  • My career I always wanted to be was a stay at home mum and couldn’t afford it before but now with 5 kids at home I finally am a stay at home mum and am loving it.

  • When I was in high school, I wanted to be a social worker. Now in my 50s, I’m glad I didn’t follow through as I’m such a sucker, so gullible for a sob story. People would be pulling the wool over my eyes left right and centre
