Hello!

My baby boy is 6 weeks old now and lately has started a bad feeding habit of sometimes waking between feeds and expecting to be given a bottle. I bottle feed him on formula and expressed breast milk where I can (as I don’t produce enough milk for as single feed). My partner gives in easily to the ‘I’m hungry, feed me cry’ despite my trying to set a schedule. Is there a way to change this habit without leaving my baby to scream himself out? I have tried the dummy and bottled water to no avail. Please help!!

  • I never fed on schedules despite the hospital telling me to. I demand fed for both of my children, however would never let them go past 4 hours without a feed. There was a night however my daughter when she was around 3 weeks old kept wanting to feed. I was desperate and tired and ended up calling the parent helpline. Turns out it was because she had gas and was confused, a warm bath, massage and a good burping stopped the behaviour.

  • distract him with a bath or a massage to take his mind off wanting food
