I would contact a local beekeeper and ask if he can come and have a look and give advice.

We contacted a local apiarist and they came and removed the hive (no charge). I think they must use the bees themselves.

We have the same problem. With 2 huge flowering gums in our yard there’s not much we can do short of cutting the trees down. So unless you can remove what attracts them, you’re stuck with them. They shouldn’t cause too many dramas unless someone is allergic

Bees are attracted to pollin,you need less flowering plants or trees for less bees.

i have the same issue so came to read the answers. please whatever you do, don’t kill them. The world has a shortage of bees due to insecticides etc and without bees there will be no life on this earth. good luck

If you want to keep them out of your yard, mix a solution of sugar and water and place in a shallow saucer in a high place and tell your little one to stay away from that area.
Do not try to kill them, we need bees to pollinate the flowers for our fruit and vegetables to grow.

Cut off the neck portion of a large soda bottle.
Turn this upside down inside the remainder of the soda bottle. Staple it in place so that it hangs down like a funnel.
Pour in a few inches or fruit juice or sugary soda to attract the bees. Insects such as bees (and flies) will fly in but won’t be able to find their way back out again.
Hang where the bees are most bothersome, such as at an exit/entrance way in your yard. Hope this is of some help

Leave it for the experts! Don’t attempt to spray them or smoke them out! That is only asking for trouble.

They should move on eventually, unless they have a hive somewhere close.

google for a beekeeper in local area, he should be more than happy to take the hive, some charge a small fee.

Also u can call the dept. of Agriculture, they will advise u.

But if the bees have been there only a short time, they may move on by themselves, as they need to create a hive, if they have been there for sometime, a couple of weeks or more, they probably have made a hive in tree.

They will not hurt u ,unless u hassle them, or make loud noises near them, they r attracted by perfume, etc, so keep the scents down, when u r in the yard.

If you use insect repellent they could get angry and fly straight at you. Wear clothing that protects you, including your face and hands. Make sure they can’t go up your sleeves, down your neck or up the legs of long pants. I have seen that happen once too often. I would also get rid of flowers in your yard that attract them. They love yellow and purple coloured flowers. They will always come back to them. Wait until your son is having a nap and have a quick look to see waht they are mainly going to. Don’t leave containers of water around anywhere outside. If you have any pets they are liable to get stung too. If it is only a lot of bees and not a swarm at all, a professional beekeeper may/may not be interested if he has to come too far. If you are getting a pest exterminater in, ask for a price. You will probably need to go to the bank for cash. A lot won’t accept a cheque.

Look up BEE CLUB in your area. They will happily come get them mostly for FREE.
The Amateur Beekeepers Association of NSW runs a swarm removal program where a beekeeper will come and collect the swarm and re-home it in a bee hive.

If you are worried get a pest control man in! It is no fun being in hospital if you have been stung by a swarm of bees! We had a wasp’s nest in our ensuite wall and it measured 2feet x 3ft on the old scale. They were making their entry thru a small crack in the ensuite window frame. We live in Romsey so we called Arrow Pest Control from Lancefield and Peter our friendly pest man got rid of them right away! He is the best!

Unfortunately they are part of our environment and we plant pretty plants with flowers that attract them, however they hate those sticky strips that our grandparents used to use everywhere to get rid of flies, if you hang a few of these around it will discourage them from living in your backyard, they need to be renewed depending on how many insects stick to them, so basically any insect repellent will work, but the sticky strips are great to deter them for a long time, many people put them in their chimneys if they don’t use their chimneys to stop bees from settling in them,
