How do I get rid of damp smell out of my washing machine? - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

Hi I was wondering how do I get rid of damp smell out of my washing machine? I leave the lid open for a long time after the washing has finished and the machine is empty but the damp smell is still there I also empty out the lint holders in there thanks.

  • 1. I leave the door from the washing machine not only for a while open after the washing cycle, but always open when it’s not in use
    2. After removing the clean wash from the washing machine I wipe the drum and rubber by the door down with a dry cloth.
    3. Once a month I do a cycle with vinegar on an empty drum on high temperature to clean the drum

  • bicarb soda and vinegar in a long cycle with an old towel or rag

  • having this problem with my front loader, it has a clean cycle which I’ve used as well as vinegar. nothing works will never buy a front loader again!

  • do a load of washing on the hottest setting
add some white king powder which is antibacterial & let the machine air dry after washing for as long as you can stand it

  • give it a good rinse on the hot water cycle and this should help

  • Pour 1 litre of vinegar into machine then run an empty hot cycle.

  • some simple answers to solve the problem.

  • Thanks for the tips – had to look back to get some ideas as my washing machine has that damp smell at the moment! Thanks MoM’s!

  • The next loading wash pour a cup of vinegar into the clothes. This will get rid of the damp smell

  • Some really useful advice there.

  • Vinegar. I also keep the door open til next load as I can shut my laundry away from the kids.

  • I have ran mine on a hot cycle before with just some bleach and a squirt of dishwashing liquid added to the water, it works well.

  • Loving the answers thanks for posting !! I’m going to try vinegar.

  • Vinegar and a dry run, gets rid of all those smells!

  • Vinegar and bi carb soda on a run through without anything else, also ensure you remove all lint as it can hold the smell

  • I’ve heard vinegar works well.. But have never tried it myself.

  • Vinegar is great! It isn’t full of nasty chemicals either

  • Yep I fill the wsshing machine with hot water add vinegar and put on heavy duty load then afterwards give it a good scrub.

  • I agree with the vinegar. When cleaning mine I use it and I will also use it instead of fabric softener

  • Hope you managed to get rid of the smell!
