Hello!

My 3 year old son refuses to use the toilet in any way. He doesn’t even want to sit on the toilet seat. I feel like it is my fault because I got angry at him once. I just had his little sister, he had an accident and I screamed at him. I don’t normally scream or get angry. Now every time he does a number 2 in this nappy, I try and tell him that it is wrong, then seat him on the toilet – but he just cries. What should I do? Please help.

  • sounds like it was bad experience for him so you will have to go carefully.Buying a smaller seat to fit on toilet might also help,as it looks a big hole for small child. Show him you sitting on toilet too and it being OK may also help.Take it slow is way to go. Alo if you can check out a play-school in your are so can see smaller toilets there, explain to teachers what has happened and they may be able to give advice too as they workwith little ones on full time basis

  • How is he going now?

  • That is really great to see feedback to say how the advice has helped.

  • Oh yay, it is great to hear a success story here, glad you got over that hurdle.

  • I’m so glad to see you’ve had some improvement

  • It can be so hard to keep your patience at times like this. Please don’t feel bad, even the most patient people snap.

  • Begin with a childs potty the gradually after time he will get used to the toilet

  • It’s hard not to lose ur temper with these things. But it’s all new to them and until they realize that’s what u do…. All they know is doing it in nappy!

  • Wishing you all the best :P

  • Try going to big w and buy one of those character potty that pulls apart bottom half gets turned upside down and top half is potty seat that clips onto toilet seat they are excellent

  • Start with a potty and work your way up to the toilet

  • Maybe reward him or use a potty first or even one of the seats that kids use to sit on the toilet :)
He may also be scared his going to fall through or something, both my children had that problem :)
    Hope it all gets better
