Hello!

How do other mums cope with their children living interstate? I’m separated and hubby has the children full time. I struggle with limited visits and phone calls/Skype are so hard.

  • I’m 58yrs old and the majority of my family lives in the Netherlands. I miss them and they miss me, especially when something is wrong I find my heart aching. That will never stop.
However when the kids are young, I would find this unbearable and would definitely move up closer.

  • I actually can’t even imagine how hard this would be :(
Obviously I don’t know your situation but is there any way you could move to be closer to them? Kids are only little for such a short time, This must be really difficult for all of you…

  • I don’t think I’d cope very well and would seriously consider moving closer.

  • Aw bless, so hard ! I would try to move up closer so you can share the care and be part of their lives. In the meantime keep up the contact with skyping eventhough it’s hard, you don’t want to grow apart.

  • Oh no, so sad for you. I never had my kids taken away from me, but I have a grandson I don’t see often because if where he lives, so I know how devastating it can be

  • I think Skype is probably best because it’s free and you get to see and hear your children.

  • Are you able to move closer to where they live?

  • Sounds really tricky. I hope you find some ways to connect with them and cope when they are away from you.

  • I have the same problem. My son lives interstate and is about to become a dad, so I’ll be missing out on both of them. Everyone says phone calls, Skype, emails etc but it’s not the same. Nothing compares to physical contact

  • Sounds really hard, I am sorry to read this.

Depends on their ages I guess if you wrote a journal putting down your thoughts and feelings might help you.

But to keep in contact the best you can Skype, letters, cards, trinkets even photos.

    Best of luck.

  • phonecalls, send packages or letters and lots of pics
