Hello!

I’ve tried all sorts of strategies but he is not really responding and he refuses to seek professional help. Would love some advice.

  • My daughter had symptoms of anxiety and depression about a year. I got a referral from the Gp for some sessions by Headspace (=free), eventhough I was the one who encouraged her and my daughter wasn’t initially as motivated, she did go and opened up for help.

  • I hope you were able to get some help/advice for your son. I wish you both well.

  • As someone who suffered from depression and anxiety as a teenager, I can certainly say what NOT to do and that’s force him to do something he doesn’t want. I had half my family treat me like I was a problem and kick me out of the house. Anyway, have you tried visiting sites such as beyondblue for advice, or calling a number dedicated to helping with depression in family? Does he have any family or friends he feels comfortable enough to talk about anything with? Maybe you could approach them and ask them to talk to him about it. Best of luck, it’s an awful thing to deal with.

  • yeah he does need to talk. would he feel more comfortable talking to dad or another male figure? good luck

  • I think MoM153507 has offered some wonderful suggestions.

  • How frustrating for you & horrible for your son!
Sit down with your son & explain why you are so worried.
Let him know how much you love & care for him which is why it hurts you so badly seeing him this way.
He is a teenager so it could be hormones, or there could be underlying issues such as bullying & peer-pressure.
If you find he still won’t respond try a relative, a cool Uncle or someone if you can.
If not, absolute final straw is having a talk to your doctor about what options you have as a parent. Can you get someone out to your home?
    Hopefully things resolve quickly.
    Wishing you all the best.

  • Get a Dr to come to the house and diagnose him
