Hello!

With Christmas season coming up, how do feel about drinking alcohol in presence of kids- do you do it?

  • What a can of worms. Perhaps having it in moderation rarely in front of kids is good as they learn to moderate?

  • I did do it occasionally but I wish I hadn’t. It really was a bad idea on my behalf

  • I don’t have a problem with drinking a glass of wine in front of the children, in the same way I don’t have a problem with drinking a cup of coffee in front of them either (I neither give them coffee or wine).
I do have a problem with getting drunk or even a little tipsy in front of the children, I think we should model moderation and self-control.

  • Do you mean getting absolutely legless or do you mean having a few to be social. I do and would have a few to be social. There isn’t anything wrong with it plus just because you have kids doesn’t mean you can enjoy yourself.

  • Yes – but in distinct moderation – one or two glasses of wine. And we have talked to our kids about the negative effects of too much alcohol.

  • If you do it smart, not drinking too much in front of the kids and not letting them drink, it’s ok. As long as you are being a sensible role model, as with anything in life

  • I think like a anything it’s important to model behaviour to them so drinking responsibly is important.

  • I can’t see an issue if you have a drink or too and celebrate the Christmas season.Over drinking with children and getting drunk is a big no!

  • As l9ng as you’re drinking responsibly I don’t see a problem. Just set a good example for them when it comes to drinking.

  • My husband doesn’t drink at all and I only drink very rarely and even then only one glass. I think if you are drinking responsibly/moderately I think it should be okay.

  • of course, wouldn’t think twice lol

  • My husband and I rarely drink, and when we do, its only ever one. When we’re out, only one of us will have something so the other drives. I was brought by parents that don’t drink at all. My husband was brought up that IF you have a drink, you have to work for it – you never drink because someone else is or because you’re sitting around. I don’t feel comfortable around heavy drinkers and don’t want that sort of behaviour around our kids.

  • i only drink for some special occassions. i drink less and less these days! i don’t want to promote it as normal ,every day behaviour or anything.

  • I don’t drink – my husband occasionally has a drink or 2 but only when i’m at home or the kids arent home. we discourage heavy drinking around the kids by anyone

  • Drinking and looking after children do not mix very well anyway. Looking after children takes energy and clarity of mind.

  • I avoid it and I avoid those who are doing it, I don’t like it around the kids at all. For the simple fact that those who drink are totally unpredictable and I don’t want my kids subjected to possibly unsociable behaviour

  • We try to do the same, especially around young ones. At this time of the year at social events it can be quite tricky, especially as plenty of others drink regardless.

  • I don’t drink at all. My husband very little. If done in moderation I think it’s fine.

  • I only drink at formal occasions and in moderation – so, unfortunately not much help!
