I have a father and step mother in law that are awesome and have accepted my eldest children as their own grand children from the day they first met them. My mother in law though is a whole different kettle of fish, in fact today I celebrated a year of not speaking to her. She is more worried about getting people to like her than anything but all the while stabbing them in the back and trying to control them. She drove me mental but it all came to a head when she tried to tell me to put an abusers feelings above those of the abused, the abused being my son, that was it for me
My mother in law is interesting. Sometimes she can be lovely and willing to help out and others she can be a complete pain and just plain nasty. We usually need to limit how much time we spend with them to ensure we get along lol.
It is a easy relationship because my husband and I have no family living in Australia. I get to see his mom once each two years when we make an around world trip to visit his and my family.
Not well at all, in fact they haven’t seen my new baby (who is eight months old) and haven’t seen my two year since she was two months old. Wish I had better in laws but unfortunately I lucked out in that department
Everything was fine until I was pregnant and I think it makes mother in laws a little crazy! The sense of entitlement kicked in and she said thing to me like ‘its my baby too’… they visited at bad times like after a 4hr crying session (the baby not me), despite my husband basically telling them not to. He’s got my back and supported me regarding not inviting them to stay and they eventually backed off and got the picture that we have our life, they have theirs and we can enjoy each other without living in each other’s pockets
Mine live in another country so I would say great in my case! However looking at my parents (specifically my mum with my dads parents) that is a different kettle of fish and it doesn’t help that they live literally around the block from each other!
It’s a constant battle between my parents and 1 set of grandparents. My other grandfather (mums dad) also lives overseas, so that’s hard for my mum.
