If you’re going to make a new years resolution I’d recommend making one that’s achievable. If it’s important to you, you will take steps to achieve it.
I gave up New Years resolutions many years ago. Pretty sure I haven’t made any since I was a kid. If I’m going to stick to it, I will, I don’t need to feel more of a failure by making resolutions I’ll most likely break. Too much pressure
I said to myself I have to eat more fruits and vegies after eating too much over Xmas and so far managed to at least start off with a fruit in the morning for breakfast. Maybe start small and keep reminding yourself what you are trying to achieve and why .
set yourself overall goals – and then make up mini goals towards the bigger goal. give yourself some kind of reward when you reach each mini goal to motivate you. good luck.
Be determined, find that determination right down something that Inspires you and whe n you feel like giving up look at it agin and read it aloud. It’s hard but can be done. So far I have kept off facebook and I have lost 7kgs!
Good points mom118683! Especially about making the goal fun! I do the same thing with goals; set up timeframes for accountability. Out of interest do you know where does the ’21 days to break/change a habit’ originated?
NY resoloutions are something that everybody should do, BUT there is no need to wait until NY to try and make your self better. Start with deciding what your goal will be. Now be realistic about your goal. e.g. Drink at least 2L water every day. You then need to put down a measurable time frame. Eg in 3 weeks i will be drinking min 2L daily. then you need to set out how you will reach your goal. Eg, Week 1 Drink 4 glasses min of water per day, week 2 increase to min 8 glasses per day Week 3 drink 8 glasses water per day. Set out how long you want to give you self to reach you goal. Keeping in mind it takes 21 days to make a habit so to change your self for the better and for the long term it ned to be daily for at least 21 days for it to become “normal” Make your goal fun, set up a chart where you can tick off when you meet your targets and celebrate when you achieve what you set out to do! But choose something for you, not food or drink. So a new dress, pedicure or new cook book. Everyday is new day, so start fresh tomorrow. Write it down and seek support from friends and family, no matter how small or unimportant you think it is – support can help you reach your desires. Hope this is helpful x
I don’t bother. Others need my help and I forget about my resolutions in the process. They are growing children and sometimes eat more than others. If I mind them in an emergency it always seems to be when my fridge isn’t full and I don’t always have their favourite foods. One is a fussy eater. The other will eat most things.
lol i vow to not make them because i break them lol. i think it takes dedication and persistance to stick to them but if you really want to achieve your goal, then it will be somewhat easier.
