Hello!

How do you keep on top of garden maintenance? How often do you mow and weed and tend to the garden?

  • My husband mows fortnightly in the summer, in the winter less. I do the weeding, cutting trees and hedges which is far more work as we have a big garden. To be honest I find it very hard to stay on top of the garden at this stage of life. I have too little time and then it becomes a weight upon te shoulders. We don’t have the finances to get a gardener.

  • I make hubby do it every three weeks but because he’s flat out with work we now have a gardener who comes in every 4 weeks.

  • Fortnightly mowing / whipper snipping and perhaps monthly weeding or alternating between different tasks. MAkes it easier if you can find a good, cheap gardener to do a bit of a tidy once a month or so

  • I see people and neighbours who love their garden and they seem to be trimming edges and the garden nearly every day , so I would say regularly to keep it nice and neat to prevent overgrowth .

  • I just chip away at it – that seems to work and stops it getting too out of control.

  • I now when the lawn needs it. I weed when I absolutely gave to, I dislike gardening so much

  • once a month for the mowing, sometimes more in summer.

  • with the affordable gardener/mower I found I pay them to do it and if they do it regularly it keeps the cost down

  • If I find I simply can’t find the time I hire someone to get on top of it for me. I can’t stand looking at the grass of it gets longer than I like, plus I have serious back pain at times.

  • I just love to be in the garden as I find it so relaxing and I can keep up the matanance by going out every day just to check for the odd weed and I mow the lawn every 2 weeks in winter and about every month ,if that in summer

  • I think it’s a nice way to see some results. It’s just long! ;-)

  • I like the idea of tackling one area at a time mom90758!

  • There is always so much to do in the garden. Everything grows so quick. The lawn should be mowed every couple of weeks, but generally I just do it once a month.
I try to work every week on one part of the garden, but I’d love to have enough money to hire a gardener to arrange it a little bit. Then maintaining it should be easier.

  • unfortunately I don’t :( I have good intentions of doing it but with work and my daughter and the weather it is extremely hard!! Great question I will check back to see the other answers to get some tips! :)

  • Sounds like a terrific idea mom57808.

  • I made a cottage garden so that there was little or no matainance… I had a ground cover that would stop the weeds and planted plants that had little to do to them

  • When it starts to look a bit messy & over grown I do it.
