  • Dressing gowns (or oodie type things), bed socks, slippers, lap blankets… all of them help.

  • Flannelette everything, close all windows and blinds early to keep the heat in, and wear socks and slippers

  • It’s impossible to warm our house, so more clothing is the best we can do.

  • Extra clothing and blankets is what we do.

  • Extra blanket and socks:)

  • Making lots of Soups
Use electric blankets and thick pj and bedsocks

  • I think the government has an energy reduction service (do a google) where they come to your house and do an energy audit. They looks at ways you can save on your heating/cooling bills and give you practical suggestions based on your actual set up.

  • If it’s for outside, rug up and keep moving. Inside, we have a wood heater. Fantastic for late night and early morning warmth with little fuss

  • A lot of the advice has been great so far. I’d also recommend draft stoppers under the doors of rooms that you don’t need to heat as well as your external doors. They really do make a difference. Also investing in some thermal singlets or long sleeve thermals to layer up with, especially if you can’t use or are trying to limit use or a heater. Stores like Uniqlo do some great, affordable ones for the whole family.

  • We only have our heater on for an hour I the morning and at night. If we are cold at night we sit under a blanket, if hubby isn’t home I’ll use a hat pack to warm me up. During the day, I wear slippers and thick jumpers

  • Focus on the lovely things about Winter – crisp mornings, hot chocolate, crumpets…..and I use spencers, long johns, a solid winter coat, woolen scarves, thick socks, and waterproof shoes to keep me toasty warm.

  • Layer up! Also have blankets around so watching tv you can keep warm too!

  • Wear layers of clothing and keep moving would be my suggestion

  • We wear clothes that keep us warm which includes bed clothes – nighties and pjs. Lots of layering with dressing gowns, socks and slippers when out of bed. We only use our heater during the day and only on low. When feeling cold it is good to do an activity that warms up the body, which can be indoor or outdoor play and games. If sitting on the couch reading maybe a throw rug or blanket.

  • A throw of good thickness and extra jumpers!!!

  • I just get warm blankets and wrap them around myself when it’s cold. Or I run around the house to stay warm.

  • Good question! It’s very hard – unless you are prepared to keep the heater roaring all day/night! Thermal curtains keep the cold out/heat in; keep rooms that are not used closed so the cold air in them doesn’t circulate through the rest of the house; rugs, throws and huge scatter cushions help to give a warm ambiance and ceiling fans on ‘up-cycle’ help permeate the warmth through rooms.

  • Agree with curtains closed and also have blankets on the couches I also have laid down rugs where there’s no carpet and we live in our dressing gowns and slippers.

  • My best advice would be to let sunlight in during the day and at dusk keep curtains closed at night.
Blankets when watching TV or doing homework and nice hot beverages. All the best.

  • Lots of tea and hot drinks and of course heater and blankets
