Hello!

Do you accrue annual leave and use it immediately for a week here and there, or do you always try to have at least a week in reserve for the unexpected? My husband always has a week or 2 in reserve possible and we like that. What do you think is best?

  • I use it for a long weekend and take a day off here and there,a job l had a couple of years ago l kept most of it and it came in handy when l quit!

  • I always left at least a week in reserve, as you never know when you may need it. The last lot I had was a 4 week block in January and it felt a bit too long. It’s also dependent on the time of year – generally by the end of the year we’re all exhausted from working and getting through Christmas, so if taking holidays in January I always used to take more than 1 week where possible. During the year it’s nice to be able to strategically tack a few days on to existing holidays to extend them like the Easter break etc – that way you can use as few annual leave days as possible.

  • well it is up to you. i know a guy who was forced to take time off work because he had built up too much time lol.

  • My husband just lets it build and takes some time off during Christmas and New Years and always has min 2 weeks unfirceen and unplanned things that may come up.

  • I always keep atleast 2 weeks, just invade of an emergency

  • Also, it depends on how much leave you think is required in case something ‘pops’ up.

  • It is like money – always have some in reserve! ;)

  • That’s what I do. I think it’s always wise to have a week or 2 of leave up your sleeve for the unexpected events
