Hello!

My little girl is 16 months and I am so confused on which potty system to use and how to actually start. One good thing is now after she has done a poo in her nappy she actually tells me that she has done a poo. Any comments would be helpful. How do you start to toilet train a toddler?

  • My daughter is 15 months and I have been asking the same question, I think this initial recognising is step one, with my son I just used a mini toilet seat that goes on the big toilet, seemed to be less confusing

  • For those going through this there are Dora potty training dolls. Might be worth a try.

  • We have 2 girls and there is no one answer. Each child is different. The cues for our first were different from those for our second.

  • i would wait until shes 2 until i toilet trained

  • How is she going with her toilet training ?

  • great to read the tips as we’ll be start toilet training soon

  • i hope its been going well

  • Hope you managed to find some ideas that have helped.

  • How are you going with toilet training now?

  • What did you end up doing?

  • I wish you all the best with it.

  • We never had the potty, our daughter was so exciting to use the “Big Toilet” that we had a ladder toilet seat for her to use

  • The summer months are great to start. We spent a lot of the day outside in undees with the potty also outside.

  • Great to read the tips, I am trying to train my 2 year old now but she really doesn’t want to

  • Wanted to know aswell, thanks for posting..

  • My boy use to put potty on top of toilet so I got the toilet seat with steps and handles and that is getting him up there and sitting. Still waiting on action but he tells me when he does wee and poo and he is 22mths old

  • I think it best to start on the toilet with a child seat fitted as this saves you having to do it all over to get her on the toilet after the pot

  • I just saw an amazing system at a friends house – its a set of steps and toilet seat that fits over your toilet, and it has rails on the side so they can climb up safely. Our son is toilet trained already but too small to get up to the toilet himself. I’m buying him one of these set ups today!

  • U need to have the potty in an easy access spot. Let her sit n play with it. Then encourage her To sit on it n explain . Clearly she understand the concept

  • You can start by sitting her on the potty at times you know she’d usually pee, like first thing in the morning, straight after a nap or after a drink of water. Good luck, I hope it goes well!
