Hello!

I’d like to know if any mums have any tips on how to stop my 3 year from picking her nose. She will pick it until it bleeds! Any advice would be helpful.

  • Saline spray. If dry air leads to dry nasal passages, a quick spritz with saline spray may help restore moisture and prevent dry snot and boogers. …
    Saline rinse. …
Treat the underlying cause of nose mucus. …
Use a memory device to stop nose picking. …
    Find an alternative stress reliever.

  • Owies i thought the pain would have stopped her but since it doesnt it might be a nervous thing with an underlying issue

  • great suggestions on here though

  • yeah my 3y.o copies daddy in this department lol

  • I’m just wondering if she’s doing it out of habit or is there an irritation going on up in her nose? Maybe get it checked out by your GP just to be sure. I know other Mums have tackled the problem by immediately giving their child a tissue every time they see them picking their nose by trying to break the cycle.

  • If her nose is irritated and dry, try using a fess spray for her to help moisten the nose.

  • My son used to do this, it can be hard especially if its itchy due to picking, you could offer her a hanky and tell her to blow her nose instead of picking. Just tell her its yucky and not what little girls should do, try not to stress though

  • she must have a sore or something up there, get the dr to take a look

  • thats a tricky one good luck

  • With a dry nose it will cause some kids to pick. Maybe get her checked over by a GP first to rule out allergies ect.

  • Reminding/ diverting her attention gently when you notice and possibly check if there’s any irritation/ dryness in her nose that makes her want to do it.

  • there are some good comments here

  • Have you had her checked for allergies? She may have an extremely dry nose which is irritating her. There are some nasal sprays you can get to help moisten the inside which may make her feel more comfortable and then hopefully stop picking it.

  • Try nail bitters (there are a few different types so go see your chemist). its a clear nail polish you suit on and when they bite their nails, or in this case put their finger in their mouth after their nose , it tastes bad and will hopefully gets break the habit. good luck

  • Any luck breaking the habit?

  • Just a gentle prompt every time you see her finger up there.

  • Have you had any luck?

  • You could ask at the chemist if they have anything that would help

  • Had any luck with the advice below?

  • They grow out of it, my daughter did it from 2.5 years old to just before she turned 4 years and hasn’t done since
