Some people say just to take them straight off. Others say gradually. I would like your views please

  • It depends, for you breastfeeding it’s better to wean gradually so you don’t risk mastitis. If your baby is over a year you don’t need to wean them onto a bottle as they only need breastmilk/formula for the first 12 months.

  • There are different ways to do it, I gradually reduced but some go cold turkey

  • I did it unexpectantly and my bub just coped. They were a bit fussy for the first 3-4 feeds but then just accepted the bottle and ran with it. It was a bit stressful doing it that way and I’m glad bub was a bit flexible with it all!

  • yeah i have done it slowly and they get used to not having it.

  • I did it gradually, week by week slowing reducing feeds etc. 4 feeds to 3 feeds to 2 feeds to 1 feed a day to 1 every second day to 1 a week to nothing. It is what worked for us!

  • Really it depends on your baby. But we did it slowly. For my comfort as well. Taking them off cold turkey will be painful for you. But we just changed 1 feed a day from breast to bottle and every couple of days dropped another feed. I always left the night feeds until last. It seemed to work well for us.
