Hello!

How many times do you need to water your plants per week?
Our plants have not had lots of sun during the day – we have lettuce, kale, spinach and rocket
I don’t have a green thumb so would like some tips.

  • In the summer when it’s hot I certainly do daily

  • There is an app you can get, I’m unsure of the name but if you Google it I’m sure it will come up. You choose your plant and it reminds you when to water it.

  • Depends on the plants, the temperature, the soil and the location.

  • All depends on the weather. Hot and sunny days will require more watering then cool overcast days. Check the soil by scratching up with your finger. We use mulch on our veggie garden, does a great job of keeping moisture in

  • Every couple of days and in Summer and it is hot every day!

  • once established, a really good soak once a week is fine, except if we have a really hot string of days, then two to three times. look at your plants and the soil

  • Once or twice a week should be suitable, unless hotter weather, and we water every 2 days or so.

  • When the weather is warmer plants may need watering every few days, cropping vegetables I water every day, when it rains you don’t need to water.

  • In the hotter times of the year I water around every 2 days depening how the plants look and either in the early morning or very late but not during the hot part of the day. In winter can be up to 5/7 days but keep an eye out on the moisture of the soil, windy conditions and how the leaves look.

  • Totally depends on the plant, what stage of growth it’s at, the weather, the drainage of the plants

  • We water our garden daily during the summer and spring (hot/humid times).
During the winter and autumn we water them every 2-3 days, depending on how much rain we get :)

  • In summer almost every day but in winter hardley at all.

  • Depends on the weather, daily if you have had sunshine or if overcast & the soil appears moist every 2nd day.

  • It really depends on your garden beds and soil; if they are raised they need more water…
Stick you finger in the dirt to feel the moister, and watch your plants, if they are in pots move them around to see where they like to be.

  • It all boils down to what type of soil you have ie. Whether it holds moisture well or is sandy and drys out fast

The type of weather you are having and the type of plants, the type you mentioned do well with regularly watering during dry, windy etc. weather. I’d recommend testing your soil with your finger and watering if no sign of moisture shows.

Hope it works out for you as gardening is a great pastime and the fresh produce is a big bonus!

  • Every other day or if I see the soil is very dry then every day.

  • Twice a week should be ok. But if your leaves are wilting they might need a drink, and if the leaves are turning yellow that might mean too much water.

  • Approximately every 2 days we do

  • every day if in direct light,or every second day in winter as the sun is not so harsh

  • If its not raining i water our veggie garden every two days or so. Over summer its everyday. (well the fruit trees etc, strawberries.)
