My teen doesn’t have a specified time limit on technology. As long as he has done his chores and other things I’m ok with that.

Mine got to watch favourite TV shows, an hour on the computer and times were extended fir weekends and holidays, or withdrawn for misbehaving

My 4 year old watches about an hour of TV in the morning after breakfast (while I get ready for the day), and another hour in the afternoon before dinner (while I get dinner ready). Most days she might use the tablet for about 20 minutes to do the Reading Eggs program. In summer this is often less as I encourage them to be outside more. The TV doesn’t go on during the day unless she is sick and needs rest.

Depends on their age. They pick their favourite TV shows, and that’s all they watch. If the computer is needed for homework, an hour at the most. Playing games, maybe half hour at a time, longer if they’re educational games or if it’s wet outside and they can’t play out

I’m embarrassed to say my kids watch tv a lot. It’s the only way to get things done especially when it’s pouring and they can’t go outside. I would say they average 2-3 hours a day with most of it on the weekends but if I could I would cut it down to an hour or so a couple of times a week.

My boys only watch TV on the weekends in the morning and if we turn the TV on during the week it’s to watch a movie and we take turns on who chooses. Also they are 9 & 11 and they got their first I pods for Christmas and I only let them use it whilst I need peace and quiet or as a reward for doing the right thing but usually no longer than an hour a day.
These are also you as a deprivation if they have misbehaved as I take them off them

My boys are 10, 8, and 6. During school term on weekdays we don’t turn the the TV on in the morning as it is too distracting getting ready for school, work, etc. In the afternoon they get to watch TV or use the computer from 4-5pm if we are at home and if they have finished their homework. The older two need to complete some homework online (Mathletics) for approx. an hour each week which they often do during the week. On the weekends and school holidays we give them a bit more time. They do fight about whose turn it is and what to play/watch so we use an egg timer sometimes they lose the privilege if they can’t work it out amicably.

I didnt have set rules for my kids over that sort of thing but mainly because my kids were ones that loved to play outside and jump on the trampoline, ride bikes, go carts, skateboards, etc
They watched tv for a bit in the mornings before their day began but not on school days as the morning was spent getting ready for school. They would come home from school and go out to play but if it was raining then they would watch tv or dvds.

But they much preferred to spend time with me so if I was baking or doing something they would rather join me then to watch tv or be on the computer.

Let me clarify, that is for computer/tablet time, tv they watch most of the time.

Our kids are allowed time on the weekends only, 2 hours per day and we include Friday afternoon as the weekend. For school holidays they are allowed 2 hours per day every day.

We try to limit the amount of tv and ipad that they watch. Usually 30 mins per a sitting, max. Once in a while we’ll let them watch a movie, they younger ones (1 1/2 and 3) usually play after a bit and just turn to see the highlights, whereas the older one would sit through (5 1/2). If it’s a movie we’ll usually take a few breaks throughout.

As little as possible – we are trying to encourage our son to be outside playing as much as possible. We have relatives who have children who wouldn’t have any idea what grass is, so we are trying to promote to our boy to be active and play outside (or really anywhere but just being stationary in front of a screen). We are currently introducing him to the ipad to watch short tv shows on, as we are going overseas in March and need to occupy him on the plane. He is now 20mths old. 🙂

It depends on the time of year; school or holidays. During the term-1 hour. During the holidays-negotiated.

My children are 10, 13, and 15 and have way too much time in front of screens. Partly it’s because we are all students and quite a lot of our studies require computer time. However, we do have rules.
No screens before school. No exceptions.
Play time on ipads etc is allowed between 6 and 8pm. But only if homework and chores are done.
All electronic gadgets are to be off and in my room from 8pm. They are not allowed in kids bedrooms during sleep time. Also, a break between screen time and bedtime is advised as screens effect children’s sleep.
They are not permitted to use any screens during conversations with real people who are actually in the same room as they are. Call me old fashioned.

My son is 13 and I like to restrict his screen time (tv, PC games etc) to a minimum 2 hours a day otherwise I find he becomes obsessive and suffers with headaches. I encourage outdoor sports instead of being inside with technology.

Around one hour per day I’d say.

More than they should!!
My kids are 8 and 5 and if given the option would play ipod (8 year old) and watch TV (5 year old) all day. We are much stricter during term time. No screen time until they are ready for school so they may get 10-15 minutes in before school. Then an hour or so after school.
