Hello!

“My five and a half year old son wants to have a sleepover at the home of our friends whose child is the same age. They are very good friends, but I am just not comfortable with the idea of him having a sleepover. Any thoughts on this?” How old should a child be for a sleepover?

  • I personally dont like sleepovers I only let my kids have sleepovers if I knew the parents well enough

  • I think there is not a certain age a child should be for a sleepover. It totally comes down on your personal choice, some families start earlier and some won’t start till the teenage years.
When I know the parents well and they’re are good friends and both the kids are keen then I don’t have a problem with it. However I have 2 kids with special needs and won’t do sleepovers in their case. My daughter and son were both 5years old and in Kindy when we started doing sleepovers with friends.

  • ounds ok to me, as long as you know the family well enough and his toilet trained

  • It really depends on how well you know the child & their family & how comfortable your child is with the family.
I personally think 8 is an appropriate age for sleep overs.

  • If the sleepover is with close family or friends, fairly young. If it’s with kids friends, 8 and up for me

  • It all depends on your child, how well you know the family and how comfortable your kid is being away from you over night

  • My daughter had her first sleep over when she was 6 years old. I don’t mind my children sleeping over with friends but I only let them sleep over with friends whose parents I know well & trust.

  • My child was 6 when she had her first sleepover. That was Prep.

  • I’m sure – I think I’d prefer mine to be teenagers before they attend a sleep over.

  • I didn’t start sleepovers until a little older but I always had them at my home

  • Thanks heaps ! Wondering this myself.

  • all depands on how well ucan trust the people he is staying with and well your child sleeps at other peoples places

  • My son is 8 (almost 9) and never had a successful sleep over but most of his friends started at 5. his are due to being High Functioning Autistic. BUt it will depend on the child.

  • Depends how much you trust your friends? Could you suggest that the friend stays at yours? Or if they are close friends maybe go away somewhere together for a weekend and do it on neutral grounds..

  • How about having the sleep over at ur place?

  • I agree its to young I think 7 is a good age.

  • Too young wait till he is 7

  • Too young. I hv not let my daughter.

  • it depends on the individual child.

  • I would think once at school would be fine.
