A reward chart worked for us our OT also made us up a book of going to the toilet and included pictures of him and steps with a story and laminated it with a sticker chart at the end she also sugessted a foot stool to rest his feet on whilst on the toilet to align his body.

Could it be he doesn’t like the sound of it hitting the water? We heard that comment from a Mum who was having the same issue.

Bribery… I tried everything for my son to do his poos on the toilet. He would go running to the toilet to do a poo when I told him he could have a kinder surprise if he did one. We did go through a lot of kinder surprises but we phased them out over time. He now does them on the toilet (however if I don’t make sure I take his night time nappy off as soon as he wakes up in the morning he’ll do it in his nappy). Good luck!

Sounds just like my grandson! No matter what he would not poo on the toilet. He had a night time nappy and a nappy for nap time at child care and that’s when he would poop. I think knowing his little cousin was pooping in the toilet that encouraged him to try it

You can buy a book from Kmart that’s called “First Steps: Toilet Time for Boys”, it may help. Rewarding with a sticker or something may help, or even leaving him naked might help as he might like doing it in his jocks.

Buy a toilet chair that fits over the toilet and pop in the toilet a hand full of Fruit Loops Cereal and ask your child to sink them with his poo. Make a reward chart and stickers and at the end of the week if all goes well a treat will be rewarded. Stickers are a great way to entice kids to get the message. I would also not put that ‘sleep nappy’ on it’s his safe place to poop. Buy some new character undies and lay them on his bed or take him shopping for character undies make a big deal about how much of a big boy he is! Get Dad involved to get Dad and you new undies on the day! Best of luck!
