Hello!

I have a 1 year old son, i’m working hard to introduce several food to him so he won’t be picky. Sometimes when I feed him, he knows how to shake his head or sometime in the middle of eating dinner, he’ll just stop eating.

  • I guess you need to look at the overall amount you’re feeding him and seeing how much of it he’s eating, then you’ll have an idea of its enough

  • For the past month, my 19months has been doing that as well. Before that, he will eat everything we put in front of him. We will give him food that we knew he like, then he didn’t even touch it or just partially eats it. He will put aside his plate/bowl and shake his head. If I saw that he didn’t touch the food at all, I usually will offer him something else that he likes. If he kept refusing then that means he’s full. For his next meal, I will offer the same thing again, mixed with something else, then, most of the time, he will just eat all of it. It could be that he’s bored with the food or he’s just full. Good luck and keep trying. Don’t be discouraged.

  • My son also shakes his head which i think means that he’s had enough food but i also offer him other things to eat just to see if he’ll eat something else or if he’s actually full.

  • Kids often need to be given something multiple times before they eat it – keep offering him things he “rejects”.

  • I usually offer other stuff and if she wants that (and it is still healthy) I will give it to her. Maybe try writing a diary with which foods are rejected and then see if you can notice any trends

  • Just offer a meal. If he doesn’t eat it, that’s okay. He won’t starve himself. Also it takes about 10 times of trying a food before they know if they don’t really like it. Good luck.

  • If he says he’s hungry within an hour or so after a meal then probably picky eating rather than being full.

  • The best indicator is of course when they’re growing, the weight is good and they look. healthy. Keep offering wide variety of nutritious foods and keep in mind kids (like adults) have taste differences so offer choices.

  • Sometimes they don’t like the feel of it in their mouth, just try and if doesn’t like don’t force him to eat try something else and they go through fazes of liking certain foods.
