Depends how you want to live. May be expensive to convert it to a proper home

It really depends on whether you go off the grid or not. The initial outlay and getting it set up isn’t cheap, but if you go off grid once you are set up there is basically no running costs.

How easy is it going to be to get Council approval to erect one of them. Even on country propeties including farms you have to have approval – you do in SA even if you don’t have to in other states. I heard from a farmer who got into trouble from their local council or demolishing an old farm shed that had been badly damaged in a storm and was falling apart. Part of the roof was laying all buckled in adjoining paddock, and part of one of the stone walls had blown inwards. They don’t know how the council found out. The council reckoned he was going to build a new one without getting building approval.

They’re a couple of grand to buy and there would be more expense involved setting it up to live in. Once it was all converted, it probably would be cheaper then buying a house. Some people do amazing jobs setting them up

can be around a few grand for an old one. maybe look into flat pack homes. pretty cheap too.

We have friends who built an amazing home out of multiple shipping containers, I didn’t even realize they were shipping containers! It just looked like a regular house to me.
They did say it was cheap to do however I couldn’t tell you an approximate price range.
I think they just googled & tried multiple places until they found one they thought was right for them.

Good Point jodiev1980 – maybe they come in different sizes? Not sure? Interesting though.

I wouldn’t have thought they were big enough to live in unless you joined a few together.
